Business isn't always a competition. Any comedy fans out there know that there has been a revolution within the stand-up comedy space, where over the last decade comedians are constantly working together and promoting each other's material through collaboration. I think business owners should take this same approach. In the last two days I have spoken to two very talented buy-side advisory groups that do similar work to DealGen Partners. Instead of figuring out how we could beat each other, we both recognized the blue ocean of opportunity that is M&A and spent both meetings talking through ways we can work together to grow. We ended up signing referral agreements with both firms where we can send business back and forth and monetize more opportunties than we currently are through working together.

How do streamers not have a catalogue trailer channel? The most basic thing. Mix it up, block it; 70’s, 80’s, 90’s… comedy hour, horror night. Show me what I’ve never seen, show me what I’ve loved and forgotten, show me that thing I heard of that time when that person said it was good… give me another way to discover content. Give me something to talk about. We have the trailers, why not leverage them? I have HBO Max (I’m not calling it “max”, say max to someone over 14, they say… “HBO Max?”), Peacock, Hulu, Paramount+, I gave up on Netflix, AppleTV+, Amazon Prime and Disney+. I can’t think of a single thing worth watching, worse I can’t think of a single thing that I want to watch worth paying for. I want more new content, I want a way to discover more old content. Sell me. Convince me I’m wrong. Show me what you have to offer. Remind me why you’re worth it. Signed, the (frustrated) consumer.
