What a heartwarming evening at the BNE Ambassador Appreciation dinner! This year has been nothing short of extraordinary for our ambassador program with the team going from 110 to an impressive 154, welcoming over 40 new faces. Our amazing Airport Ambassadors dedicated over 24,000 hours, helping over half a million passengers across Brisbane Airport. From travel trivia to a stunning performance by the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra, it was a night to remember. What a transformation 🍃 Four gateway locations at Brisbane Airport are looking revitalised following the completion of the first phase of the Landscape Rehabilitation project. We've seen a 'Super Dyson' suck up precision cut concrete slabs from our Legacy Runway through to early morning concrete pours with specifically formulated concrete for our runway system. We are commencing construction of an Aeromedical Precinct to serve Queensland in regional, rural and remote communities by enhancing emergency response capabilities and providing seamless transfer to Brisbane's world-class hospital and medical network. Located between Brisbane Airport’s parallel runways for quick access, it will be home to aircraft and resources for Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, LifeFlight, Retrieval Services Queensland and Queensland Police Service Aviation Capability Group and will be delivered in partnership with the Queensland Government. Major runway works are well underway on our Legacy Runway! This vital project commenced in June, here's a quick update on where the project is at. ✔️ A shortened runway is in place, which involved removing existing line marking and installing temporary crosses and line-marking to outline the construction area. ✔️ All of the required concrete slabs on the taxiways and runway construction area have been removed. ✔️ Preparation for the subbase material (a fine crushed rock) is complete. ✔️ 180 cubic metres of concrete was poured last week, with 420 cubic metres still to go So what's next? The project team is currently waiting for tests to confirm that the concrete is strong enough to support the construction of the pavement or taxiway. With only 4 weeks until The Forgotten Women’s annual Live Like Her Challenge, the Brisbane Airport team have been busy preparing themselves for a night underneath the stars at the Skygate Multi level car park. Last year over 140 people joined the challenge and this year the aim is to grow that number to 500, with a goal to raise $500K from the event. The response so far has been great. With a conservationist's heart and a knack for aviation safety, Tom Ashover balances the environment with the busy 24/7 operations of Brisbane Airport. As the Wildlife Management and Planning Coordinator, Tom’s “office” is like no other. On any given day, he’s working across the airport, analysing data, inspecting buildings, checking on vegetation, and monitoring the sky. His job requires diverse knowledge—from habitat and pest management to airside operations—and is full of responsibility. We recently caught up with Tom for our People of BNE series. He gave a great insight into his world, where “wildlife doesn’t take a break,” and showed us a unique role that helps ensure the safety of everyone travelling through our airport.
