We are thrilled to announce the release of the final International Terminal Request for Proposal (RFP), inviting specialty retail operators to bid for 10 premier opportunities across two levels. Our aim is to bring the finest global offerings to #Brisbane while showcasing the best of Queensland to the world. To deliver this vision, seven new specialty retail sites will be available on the Level 3 departures ‘High Street’, along with two on Level 4. We welcome interest from a cross-section of brands and products that can align with the ‘Australian, Holiday Enablers, Aspirational Luxury and Considered Gifts’ retail pillars to take the new offering to the next level, whilst complementing the new food & beverage offerings being introduced throughout the terminal. The retail refresh and expansion comes as plans are finalised for the upgrade of the International Terminal, as part of the $5 billion #FutureBNE transformation of the entire airport. The latest CGA RSM Hospitality Business Tracker reveals, Britain’s leading hospitality groups generated year-on-year like-for-like sales growth of just 0.1% in January. Saxon Moseley, Leisure and Hospitality Partner at RSM UK, said: “Given the impact of successive storms Henk, Isha and Jocelyn that left many Brits sheltering at home in January alongside acute competition for scarce discretionary spending, these results demonstrate the appetite of consumers who continue to favour experiences over “things”. With ongoing cost pressures having already accounted for some recent high-profile restaurant closures, operators will be hoping that the continued fall in inflation, the prospect of interest rate cuts in the Spring and the Six Nations rugby will tempt consumers to venture out and support their local establishments.” #hospitality #RSMinsights Paul Newman https://lnkd.in/erEGqPU6

The railway station catering market is in need of more competition, according to the Office of Rail and Road (ORR). A six-month investigation revealed that passengers are paying a 10% price premium at stations compared to high-street outlets due to a lack of competition in the market. The catering companies pay fixed rent to station operators to occupy retail spaces, with a tendering process to compete for slots. Nearly half of all stations with a catering offering have only one outlet, which makes competition crucial in the market. The ORR's interim findings reveal that those who run stations are not sufficiently incentivised to invite competition for outlets, leading to extended leases and high prices. Director of Economics, Finance, and Markets for ORR, Will Godfrey, said that more competition between companies to operate at stations would benefit passengers and taxpayers. Station catering brought in total revenue of around £700m in 2022-23, and station operators earned over £100m in rental income from leasing outlets for catering services in the same period. The ORR said it will work with the industry to make recommendations on how the market needs to change to improve value and outcomes for customers and funders of the railway. #Competition
