WHY I CELEBRATE THIS WEDDING ! Boo Hoo….to the trolls… I wish Mr. Ambani had 10 children instead of three and we would have so much more to look forward to. Have you heard of the Trickle Down theory ? When the rich spend, it trickles down to the poorest, especially those who just want to make decent living out of hard work and not live off charity. I think right from the chaiwalla to phoolwalla to rickshaw walla to the guard probably the lowest in the ladder got well engaged due to their labour. Ofcourse there were layers…. Suppliers/ vendors…the local economy got a boost. What if all this money just lay in a bank … earning interest? Even if it is an ostentatious display so be it. They are the modern day Maharajas. Our knowledge of the grandeur of eras is dependent on the court writers and sculptors who put it down for generations to learn about. Mahabharat , Ramayana, puranas are well populated with the grand events hosted by royalty. We are a culturally rich country, and there is no harm should such grandeur be revived. With all due respect to our old wealth, of the pre-Independence era, their events/ weddings have been out of media and not much is known about them. Remember we were a third world country, exceptionally poor ? Any ostentatious display of wealth wouldn’t bode well. Fast forward today, we have a huge middle class with unmatched aspirations, and everything is within reach. If a middle class Ambani could do it, so can I. Yes, there have been so many successful stories where young people have broken the barriers and entered millionaire clubs in India. The butt-ists, and what-abouters (those who will always butt in with a what about or a but what of this or that)…. Well listen up…. Some people like to work hard and play hard. Let’s just say Ambanis play hard. God bless Ambanis. PS: Sadly, I am neither related to them 😢 or even remotely connected to any of their business.

In India, 1 crore weddings take place annually. From November 23 to December 15, 2023, spanning 23 days, about 35 lakh weddings occurred, generating a staggering ₹4.25 lakh crore in business.  This means that, on average, each wedding in India generates around ₹12 lakh. Indians spend $130 billion on weddings, making it the country's fourth largest industry, ahead of sectors like steel, cars, and technology. With 65% of the population under the age of 35, weddings are a significant expense. Indians typically allocate 20% of their income to weddings, primarily as a means of status signalling, a deeply embedded cultural trait. Don't try to compensate for your lack of appreciation with a big gift during the holidays. 6. Don't suffer quietly. If you're struggling with something, let your spouse know. 7. Successful relationships are not 50-50. Each person should give 100%. 8. Learn to tell if your spouse wants you to listen and empathize or to solve the problem. 9. Never stop dating each other. 10. Be each other's friend. My wife is my best friend, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

But then, this constant buzz of society's norms is nudging me towards something more lavish. "Make it big," they say. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime affair!" But here's what I keep asking myself-- Why pour crores into just two days that end up being more about pleasing others than celebrating us? Let's be honest; there's always someone who'll find something to complain about - be it the food, the decor, or even how the bride looks. Why not invest this money in something more long-lasting? Maybe a dream trip, a start to a new business venture, or even a nest egg for the future. It's about spending on what really adds value to our lives. The true spirit of marriage isn't captured in the extravagance of a wedding. It's about the bond between two people. So, let's step back and think about what really matters. Let's make choices that reflect our own values, not just what's expected of us.
