It’s just over 3 years since I took a leap of faith with Laura Swingwood and set up Marchwood Marketing Services. Years 1 and 2 were all about wearing lots of hats while finding and retaining our first customers. Last year we stepped back a bit to work on the business itself. Our learning curve has been exponential. We haven’t always got it right but we have definitely learned from our mistakes. Headlines have been: Our Linkedin network was (and continues to be) absolutely fundamental to finding the fantastic customers we have today. 100% of our first customers came through this (and most are still with us!) Being clear on what we don’t do. We've curated a network of “gurus’' who can step in when we step out of our areas of expertise. Having a growth mindset. The digital marketing arena is evolving at an unprecedented rate with almost continuous updates from social media algorithms, googles suite of platforms & interfaces and and of course the explosion of AI. Being committed to continually learning is fundamental to our own professional development and the value we offer to our customers. Trusting our gut. We only work with businesses who share our values and ethos and reflect it in their own businesses. We believe this is why we have a great relationship with our customers who in turn under estimate how their own energy and passion inspires us. Saying yes to support. When we raised our heads above the parapet it was an eye opener to discover the wealth of resources and guidance on offer locally. So far business coaching and mentoring have challenged us as individuals and a business. Carving out time for networking has connected us with fantastic professionals who have supported us in various areas of our own business. Embracing technology. We have a constant eye on platforms that can help us streamline how we work. Social media scheduling tools, project management and analytical applications have recently made an instant difference in our efficiency. They've enabled us to bring in extra support and deliver more customer value. The sheer number of platforms and opportunities can be overwhelming but our mentoring has helped us prioritise and the results have quickly spoken for themselves. Taking risks. We've taken plenty that have pushed us way out of our comfort zones and now we are daring to grow our business. We’re starting small but can already see a pathway to bigger things. Looking ahead to 2024 we’re excited about what's next. We’re looking forward to: embracing podcasts; maybe delivering a seminar or two; getting under the skin of Google’s new Search Generative Experience; making our email marketing work harder/smarter with more sophisticated automated campaigns and capitalising from AI opportunities where appropriate and relevant.
