Project and Publications Manager (Davos) at Oxfam International and Trustee at Anawim, Birmingham's Centre for Women

Oxfam International has launched its new inequality report ahead of #Davos and its findings should absolutely incense us all: https://lnkd.in/eAmf9ByP Since 2020, 5 billionaires’ net worth has skyrocketed 114% to a total of $869 billion. We're on course for the world's first trillionaire in the next 10 years. Meanwhile, nearly 5 billion people globally have become poorer, as they contend with inflation, war and the climate crisis. The most sobering line: It would take nearly 230 years to eliminate poverty based on the current trajectory. We need to stop glorifying the attainment of gross wealth; tax the rich proportionately, properly and fairly to put money extracted back into the public purse for education, healthcare and other crucial public services; resist the privatisation of public services and join and support Unions and workers striking for fair wages. Huge respect to colleagues across the Oxfam Confederation who worked on this 👏 For a fantastic breakdown of the key findings, check out this thread from co-author Rebecca Riddell: https://lnkd.in/eW9CQVZ2
