We're excited to announce that Flex Wind South Africa has finalized its Black Economic Empowerment(BEE) transaction with Jade-Sky Wind, a wholly South African, female-owned subsidiary of the Jade-Sky Holdings Energy Platform. Jade-Sky Wind has acquired 26% of Flex Wind South Africa, strengthening its commitment to delivering domestic technical excellence in the South African wind energy market. Flex Wind South Africa is a Level 3 BEE Contributor with shareholders: Flex Wind A/S (58%), Jade-Sky Wind (26%), Azari Investment (16%). Since its inception in 2017, Flex Wind A/S has grown steadily, with Bagger Soerensen Equity A/S also known as BS Equity joining as a majority shareholder in 2021. Expansion into South Africa in 2022 was driven by the increasing demand for wind energy solutions across the African continent. This partnership with Jade-Sky Wind not only bolsters Flex Wind’s ability to service the local market but also showcases the power of authentic local empowerment. It is interesting to think, that in just the last 5 years this number has increased from under a gigawatt to over four. And should we continue to hit our targets, that number would be 5GW by the end of next year, and 10GW before 2030. Image if that’s extrapolated to 2035, and even just 5 of Neoen’s Australian competitors did half as much each, that could be 50GW of new generation by 2035. That would be 3 times the amount of power from seven APR-1400 plants, none of which would be built before 2035. Just saying…

📍 Transaction news: We sold our 10% stake in the Belgian offshore wind farm C-Power, the first-ever investment that we made back in 2011. The stake was acquired by existing co-shareholders and the transaction was signed and closed on 2 February 2024. The C-Power offshore wind farm is located in 🇧🇪 Belgium’s exclusive economic zone, 28km north of the Belgian coast, and consists of 6x 5M and 48x 6.15 M Senvion turbines. The project started operation in stages between 2009 and 2013. The 10% stake in C-Power was owned by Marguerite Pantheon SCSp - an investment vehicle that we managed, and in which Pantheon - the specialist global private markets investor - is the sole investor. Marguerite Pantheon SCSp was advised on the sale by Green Giraffe Advisory (financial), Clifford Chance (legal), Mott MacDonald (technical) and KPMG Belgium (tax). Pleased to have been part of the core CMS team advising Equinor on its swap transaction with bp in the US. The transaction will see Equinor take full ownership of the Empire Wind lease and projects and bp take full ownership of the Beacon Wind lease and projects. Empire Wind, which is located 15-30 miles southeast of Long Island, is being developed in two projects: - Empire Wind 1, with a potential capacity of 810 MW; and - Empire Wind 2, with a potential capacity of above 1,200 MW.
