🐑 What's the difference between lamb, hogget and mutton? We asked PfL member Fidelity Weston from Romshed Farm, who farms 100% pasture-fed (aka Pasture for Life) sheep. 🗣️ "I think the term new spring lamb is somewhat misleading as many are not ready until autumn. If you are buying lamb in the spring and it is being sold as new spring lamb it is often born at Christmas and fed cereals to be ready for spring.” It’s important to note here that this is not always the case but the majority of spring lamb. There are farmers that lamb in autumn and feed only grass through the winter, but it is best to ask your local sheep farmer or retailer for traceability. What's the age difference? < 1 year - new spring lamb 1-2 year old lamb - hogget 2+ year old - mutton 📍 Find Pasture for Life certified producers selling 100% pasture-fed lamb, hogget and mutton https://lnkd.in/edFzedqD #lamb #hogget #mutton #lambing #sheepfarmer

Kongsgaard The Judge has become one of the most sought-after and expensive Chardonnays in the world, which makes it an impressive anomaly, considering that Napa wine is now almost exclusively about Cabernet Sauvignon. The #Chardonnay success route at The Judge Vineyard is as much about vision sparked by an edifying formative experience as it is about the importance of #mentorship, family, hardcore #farming, and evolution. This week’s feature is a deep dive into the story of John Kongsgaard and his family’s impact on #NapaValley, past and present. https://lnkd.in/eHt79nTH #winestories #familybusiness #winestasting

Kris Kramer-Walter and Brydie Craven from our Te Puke research site on their research into starch storage in kiwifruit canes. By better understanding starch storage dynamics, we hope to be able to compare different cane types across cultivars and link these to differences in floral productivity. In the future, this will provide growers the ability to selectively identify replacement canes for the following year that will ultimately produce higher yielding vines. #plantandfood #smartgreenfuturetogether

Sour Papaya Piattella Attempt #3 Basic tek/process info: • Sour Papaya • Living Soil Grown • Hand-Washed • 1st & 2nd Washes • 45-160u • Freeze Dried • Wrapped in Piattella Foils • Vac Sealed 45 Day Cure Took 4 grams out (2 to enjoy, 2 for the headstash) and the rest went back in jar to continue doing its thing. Definitely greasier this time, and better consistency. But overall the dry resin seems consistent for this strain batch to batch. Next attempt will be a different variety for comparison. — Have you attempted to make Piattella? How did it turn out? — Want more like this? Selection is one of the key activities of a propagator as the germ rate is never (rootstocks tomato, tomato) 100%. No worries to that as 'spiderman' is there to fix it!! This fantastic machine pics up all the plants that have germinated and is able, after a quick picture, to select these into 3-4 grades. And man, it's done fast!! Selection is done 7-8 days after sowing, no time to waste.... 'Spiderman' enables professional Canadian propagator Proplant to create excellent rootstocks that, loaded with assimilates, have an excellent performance in the healing after grafting. Grading gives the plant the opportunity to grow uniformly, another nicely supporting characteristic @ grafting. Heads up for 'Spiderman'!! 💪😊 😎🍅👍 #propagation #tomato #quality

Bringing balance to the fork through a donut economics approach to food systems and reusable packaging.
MAKE ROOM FOR RANDOM: I grow tomatoes from seed following a precise protocol of seedling germination, seedling transfer, appropriate soil composition, moisture, heat, and light exposure. You can see the results of my precise work here in one of my greenhouses. Except for the monster tomato plant in the foreground, which is completing kicking my cultivated tomatoes’ collective ass. That plant is the result of my shoving a nearly-rotten tomato in a pot of old soil then completely forgetting about it.
