Impact of Labor Board’s New Joint-Employer Rule on Construction Industry The National Labor Relations Board’s new final rule for determining joint-employer status under the National Labor Relations Act would find joint-employer status if one employer possesses the authority to control at least one of the seven enumerated essential terms and conditions of employment, regardless of whether that control is actually exercised. Illinois American Water Workers Strike Over Substandard Contract Offer Chicago, IL – The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 399, announced today that its members employed by Illinois American Water have gone on strike following a prolonged period of contract negotiations. The strike action comes after Illinois American Water presented a substandard contract proposal, which was overwhelmingly rejected by the Union's members. Despite efforts to negotiate in good faith, Illinois American Water has failed to improve its offer. For many years, Local 399 has enjoyed a productive and cooperative relationship with Illinois American Water, consistently working to ensure that the highest standards of service and safety are met for Illinois residents. Our licensed and skilled water operators have shown unwavering dedication to public service, yet the recent contract negotiations have not reflected the mutual respect and fair treatment that have been the hallmark of our relationship. The substandard contract offer not only undervalues the specialized skills and qualifications of our licensed operators but also positions them to be paid less than unskilled workers. This disregard for the expertise and contributions of our members is unacceptable. Our Union members seek a fair and just contract that acknowledges their professional contributions and supports their livelihoods. It is deeply concerning that a company with a history of profitability is prioritizing profits over people, especially those crucial to delivering clean and safe water to our communities. The decision to strike was a last resort, driven by the company's lack of responsiveness and respect for our members' concerns. We urge Illinois American Water and its Board of Directors to engage in meaningful negotiations with Local 399 to reach a fair and equitable resolution. Our goal is to return to the negotiating table and work towards a contract that reflects the professionalism and dedication of our skilled workforce. As we explore alternative actions, we remain committed to avoiding any potential disruptions to the operations of Illinois American Water. We call upon all stakeholders to provide input and support in resolving this dispute swiftly and fairly. #solidarity#unionstrong #unionsforall #1U #IUOE #organize #workersrights #labor #union

Happy Labor Day folks! Did you know the labor day parade on September 5, 1882, was actually a strike, with 10,000 workers took unpaid leave, marched through the streets to demonstrate strength of the labor organization. However, the origin of Labor Day is debated, with Peter J. McGuire, co-founder of the American Federation of Labor, often credited for proposing the holiday to honor workers. But, some believe Matthew Maguire, a machinist and secretary of New York's Central Labor Union, played a key role in establishing the celebration in 1882. It wasn't until 1916, after 400,000 railroad workers threatened to strike, that the eight-hour workday became law. To prevent a nationwide railroad shutdown, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Adamson Act, establishing the eight-hour workday as the legal standard. With that being said, the labor day protest on the working conditions during the Industrial Revolution changed the labor laws that included child labor, giving health benefits and assistance to workers who are injured and retired. So, how are you celebrating this holiday? #laborday #labordayweekend #laborrights #didyouknow #mokkup #laborlaws #labordayhistory #funfacts #laborunion
