Modular Fashion Expert I Sustainable Luxury I Fashion Reformer I Author of "The Guide To Luxury Modular Fashion" Book
At New York Bridal Fashion Week last month, we saw latest trends for spring 2025 weddings This season's collections was a mix of approachable styles & high-fashion statements. Some of the prominent trends for 2025 were: – Soft tulle floor-length skirts – Drop waist & A-line silhouettes – Crystal embroidered ball gowns – Peplum-inspired longline corsets – Chic mini dress set for bridesmaid – Daisy motifs with appliqués & eyelet details While all these fresh perspectives are versatile and ideal for brides as they walk down the aisle, regardless of the wedding's location. There’s still a need for change in bridal fashion landscape. Why? Because there's a huge gap in the sustainability of these garments. Let me explain- Bridal gowns (even bridesmaid dresses) are a one time wear. Right? Those exquisite wedding gown & dresses are locked in closet after the special day. We need to start thinking about a more sustainable approach for brides, one that doesn’t sacrifice their style and glamor on their wedding. Think elegant bridesmaids dresses designed with detachable elements or convertible styles which you can rewear with multiple style possibilities. Instead of investing in single-use dresses, brides can opt for modular wedding dresses that offer versatility and re-wearability. With modular pieces, such as: →attachable bows →reversible hemlines →add-on sleeves →detachable capes bridesmaids can mix & match different components to create unique ensembles for various occasions to make sure that these garments continue to be worn and cherished long after the wedding day. #bridalwear #modularfashion #sustainablefashion

Last week was Bridal Week in NYC. The Interline's Sustainability Report came out the week before. So after I came down from the place where time stood still as gorgeous dresses floated ethereally down runways, I settled back into the reality of how much more we need to do as an industry to reach looming sustainability goals. And I had a few thoughts. And in the spirit of Friday, they started with a song: 🎵 Our secret moments in your crowded room They got no idea about me and you There is an indentation in the shape of you Made your mark on me, a golden tattoo All of this silence and patience, pining in anticipation My hands are shaking from holding back from you (ah, ah, ah) All of this silence and patience, pining and desperately waiting My hands are shaking from all this (ah, ha, ha, ha) Say my name and everything just stops I don't want you like a best friend Only bought this dress so you could take it off 🎵 Thoughts incoming: I realized, if we can convince the bridal industry that standards and size sets are important, how much would our brand partners benefit if they understand the need for virtual size sets and standards. INFACT, the bridal industry has been one of our BIGGEST partners and early adopters of standardization. (I guess when you have to fit lots of different bodies perfectly, getting a great standard and size set of bodies is a big deal!) If the BRIDAL Industry, whose entire business model is geared towards making once in a lifetime garments, realizes the need for standards, how much more should everyone else? Custom avatars are great! I mean if I was Taylor Swift and rocking several 40K gowns, I would demand a custom avatar, but the reality is custom avatars take precious time and resources that many companies are better off using elsewhere. Also, when a brand builds an avatar themselves, it's often an arbitrary representation of an incorrectly perceived standard backed by very little data. I mean is your target market represented by a woman who stands 5’10” on average? Does the WHO confirm this? How about your return rate? And let's say you build the prefect size 6, 5'6" body and it accurately reflects your target customer at that size. What are you doing for the size 00, friend? How about the size 32 cause inclusivity is a thing! Are you building 15 more bodies that mimic that core is posture, shaping, and proportion? Perhaps you should work for Alvanon, then.... Chances are companies who desire to create custom avatars would be better off spending their precious resources fitting on entire size sets of avatars backed by deep industry data and real-world scans, rather than fitting on something that may not truly represent the intended customer. I mean, we all can’t be Taylor Swift, but by gosh with technology, brands can make us think we are and they can do it efficiently.

**Part 1 of 2** I got engaged recently (yay!). After the dust settled, all the calls to family members and friends were made, and my partner and I started planning in earnest, I began dress shopping (not so yay). The wedding dress industry is a multi-billion dollar industry catering to those looking for something to wear on their wedding day. In the United States, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a new dress for under $1,500, with most dresses netting out at over $2,000 before the additional costs of alterations. You would think that an industry this big - with a higher price point compared to the average dress, and the customers increased attention to detail - would provide an in-store experience that accommodates to a wide variety of shapes, sizes and silhouettes. You would be wrong. As someone who has moved between a size 12 to 18 for most of my teen and adult life, I was ready to be frustrated. I was ready to have to call ahead to every bridal store to confirm that they had sample sizes above an 8 available for me. They all confirmed, via email or phone, that they had “a variety of styles in my size to try on”. Nine times out of ten, the “variety of styles” turned out to be four or five poufy, A-line gowns, which just happened to be the only dresses in the store that would fit over my hips. No sheath or minimalist dresses, just poufy A-lines. After a few visits like this, I went back to the drawing board. I started searching for “plus-size designers” in the markets I was looking in and after a few hours of searching, I found a few! They had the style of dresses I wanted! They went up to a size 28-30! They had plus-size models on the front page of their website and in their photography! I looked through their dresses, found a few I liked, and emailed their customer support to see if their NYC location had appointments and had the dresses in stock to try on close to my size. You know what comes next… Read Part 2: https://lnkd.in/etUf3EaX #sizeinclusivity #weddingdress #sizewashing #clothingdesign

Bridal dresses inspiration.. how do you find your perfect dress? Has the design of the perfect dress already been created in your head? Do you close your eyes and see every detail? You know exactly what style, colour and length it should have? Remember that sometimes it is difficult to explain your vision in words, so before visiting a wedding dress salon, be sure to prepare photos of a few dresses that correspond to your vision. It will be easier for you to communicate and share in more detail what you mean and for the salesperson to understand your vision. The cooperation will go smoothly, and you will not waste time trying on outfits that are not your style. #weddingdress #weddingplanner #justshine #justshineuk

Ever wondered about the untold story of bridal fashion? Imagine walking down the aisle, not just in a dress, but in centuries of history, culture, and personal dreams. Bridal fashion isn't just about trends; it's a tapestry of traditions, innovations, and silent rebellions. In the early 19th century, brides wore dresses that were simply the best thing they owned, often not even in white. The white wedding dress as we know it was popularised by Queen Victoria in 1840, yet today, we're seeing a shift. Brides are increasingly choosing colours and styles that reflect their personality, culture, and even their stance on sustainability. This evolution speaks volumes about societal change. The rise of vintage and pre-loved wedding dresses isn't just a nod to nostalgia but a loud statement for environmental consciousness. Designers are weaving sustainability into their collections, from organic fabrics to zero-waste patterns, challenging the once accepted norms of bridal fashion. But here's the twist: As we move forward, are we also looking back? Heirloom gowns, passed down through generations, are gaining popularity, blending the allure of history with the essence of personal stories. This renaissance of heritage and sustainability is crafting a new narrative in bridal fashion, one that respects the past while boldly stepping into the future. So, what's your take? Are we witnessing a bridal revolution, or is this just the cyclical nature of fashion making its round? Share your thoughts below. Let's unravel the future of bridal fashion together.
