UPCOMING EVENTS: We are excited to announce the return of our inDETAIL International Speaker Series events. inDETAIL International welcomes architects, designers and architecture enthusiasts to take a behind the scenes look into beautiful projects from around the globe. Jan Peter Wingender from Office Winhov, an Amsterdam based practice, will be joining us in person with live events held in Brickworks Design Studios across the country. Office Winhov’s philosophy is to build a sustainable future in existing cities. Sometimes, this involves creating a new building. More often, it involves reusing existing buildings. For them, sustainability is more than just the conscious use of energy, materials, and the environment. It must also acknowledge the social, economic, cultural agility and resilience a city needs to face in the future. These events will be hosted by Stephen Varady, architect and collaborator. Don’t miss out! A small step in a leap we need to do as planners for the next generation - putting the idea of people and communities first and foremost in planning initiatives the world over. Transforming from physical planning that is embodied as infrastructure and buildings to sustainable planning that prioritises the users and the impact it has on their daily lives - through means and solutions that address the intangible and the ephemeral experiences that bring us together as a people from all walks of life. South Asia has seen a number of technological leaps that have set in motion a lifestyle change that is almost unrecognisable in just a decade. How do we deal with such change, migration, technology adoption and economic and social accessibility that is created by this? Can the idea of planning for such massive leaps in society be addressed better through an approach that is focused on well-being and experience that naturally drives inclusion and integration through experiential and intangible means for creating impact? #wellbeing #sj #smec #planningforthefuture #urbandesign #urbanplanning #urbanliving #inclusionanddiversity #transformation

How did Berlin transform a stigmatised neighbourhood into a thriving and diverse urban space? The transformation of a wasteland around the Jewish Academy in the former flower market followed the ideal of the mixed city: facilitating the coexistence of different actors and using a co-creative approach. The aim was to integrate Berlin's flourishing new creative community into a neighbourhood where migrant population live, without triggering social conflicts, displacement, or gentrification. Today, the flower market hall is framed by attractive architecture with mixed programmes and welcoming public spaces. Three new buildings contain flats, ateliers, commercial spaces, shared workspaces, offices, workshops spaces, seminar rooms, guest accommodation, a summer kitchen, an event space, a gallery, a café, shops, and a restaurant. 🔍 Reflections on Our Participation in the Architectural Competition for a General Healthcare Facility in Pljevlja, Montenegro 🌄 💪🏻👌The Team: Hristijan Ivanovski, Frosina Stankovksa, Aleksandar Simjanoski In reminiscing about our profound experience in the architectural competition for a healthcare facility in Pljevlja, Montenegro, we found ourselves contemplating the intricate relationship between our environments and our well-being. Grounded in a commitment to values that prioritize health and healing, our design aimed to explore the transformative potential of architecture. The task at hand required us to draw inspiration from the rich legacy of local mountain architecture, particularly the works of renowned architect Bajo Mirković. His distinctive use of triangular forms and steep roofs has become emblematic of the region's identity. Our proposal retained these iconic elements, interweaving them into a contemporary narrative that honors the past while envisioning the future. The intent was to create a space that not only serves functional needs but envelops its occupants in an atmosphere of comfort and serenity, reflecting the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Pljevlja. Through this endeavor, we recognized the power of architecture as a catalyst for healing—not merely in terms of physical structures but as environments that enhance psychological and physical well-being. The insights gathered during this creative process have profoundly shaped our approach to design and continue to inform our perspectives on how spaces can influence health and community. As we move forward, we remain grateful for the collaborative spirit and shared vision that characterized this journey. Together, we aspire to create environments that resonate with the essence of place while nurturing the health and vitality of their inhabitants. Here’s to embracing new opportunities in architecture that advocate for healing and well-being! 🤝✨ Part 2/3 #ArchitecturalDesign #HealthArchitecture #CulturalHeritage #HealingSpaces #CommunityWellness

The Pompidou Centre in Paris. This iconic building, designed by Lord Richard Rogers & Renzo Piano, is a testament to good project management practices. The design concept was all about openness, accessibility, and the liberalisation of information. The building is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, with over half the site dedicated to the public. It's a place where what's happening inside can be transmitted to the outside, and vice versa. The Centre Pompidou opened in 1977! a time when public space was not yet acknowledged. Designers were trying to blur the gap between private and public spaces, and the Pompidou Centre captures this idea perfectly. It's a building that promotes education and culture, and is still relevant today. The renovations of the building are estimated to cost about $243 million. The hope is to wind up the work to celebrate the institution’s 50th anniversary in 2027. If you're interested in learning more about this iconic building, check out the BBC talk on the subject from the link in the comments. #architecturedesign #projectmanagement #interiordesign #europeandesign #uaeprojects #saudivision2030 #inspirations

Modern city planning often prioritizes ideology over practicality, leading to sprawling developments that lack functionality and beauty. Key lessons for better urban design include: Learn from History: Revisit proven designs to enhance connectivity and aesthetics. Design with Purpose: Create spaces that prioritize walkability and community needs. Avoid Quick Fixes: Implement sustainable interventions that address root urban issues. Human-Centric Approach: Focus on nurturing environments where people can connect and thrive. This approach encourages functional, vibrant cities rather than superficial solutions. #UrbanPlanning #CityDesign #SustainableCities #Architecture #CommunityDesign #8Global

Expo01 or RADICAL TRANSFORMATION of the building authorities. Imagine using a national Exhibition EXPO to rethink construction processes, approval procedures and innovative approaches to existing building fabric. Scenario; Biel EXPO 2001, the roofscape of the building of the Biel building authority is placed on the lake as a transformed pavilion. During the Expo, all debates concerning the transformation of existing buildings take place in the new free radical spatial structure derived from the original roofscape of the city's original building. The findings and transformations of the evolving lake pavillion will flow permanently into the "real" building in the city until it too is transformed and can fertilize the city with the new innovative approach to experimentation, space, content and urban scenarios. -City residents, civil servants, planning professionals, architects and designers begin to think more freely. -Building guidelines and specifications are redefined -Public space is reimagined -Existing roofscapes are finally given the freedom to unfold -Free spaces are allowed to be used and reoccupied, provided there is an idea. -New hybrid utilization concepts are created that have never been thought of before. -historical and new spatial structures reinforce each other through new dialogs of form and content. Architectures are created that can once again occupy a meta-level. -The education of architects and planners can gain new insights in which the focus is on the creative collaborative mind set of all those involved. We submitted the proposal for Expo Biel 2001 with RIEA, but it was rejected due to its "questionable radicalism" and failure to comply with the submission guidelines... Riea has evolved since then, without of course abandoning its radical and experimental spirit. https://lnkd.in/g8SPXZy If you want to step out of your comfort zone for a moment to optimize or rethink your processes and products through joint innovative thought and action: https://www.gladguy.ch #innovation #urban #cool #city #urbanomad #design #timeforchange #rooftop #publicspace #action #creativity #businessmodel #nomad #life #future #trends #architecture #speed #rules #model #workplacedesign #cowork #biel #education #students #consulting #coach #andreawucher
