Myths about Whiskey While it is mostly believed that Whiskey can be either consumed neat or on the rocks, it is a very common myth that this is the only way to consume it. In fact, premium Whiskey is designed with versatile flavours, making them ideal for mixing in cocktails. There has been a constant debate about whether blended whiskeys can match up to pure blends. However, the truth is that creating the perfect blended whisk is more of an art than science. If done perfectly, blended Whiskey can be satisfying giving a flavourful drinking experience. There is a popular belief that Whiskey is a winter drink; however, this is not true at all as it can be also a perfect summer drink with combinations like Whiskey Sour, Bourbon Peach Tea, Irish Coffee Milkshake or a simple Whiskey lemonade. These can be a perfect option for a hot summer evening or weekend party. Another common misconception about Whiskey is that all of them taste the same. This is not true at all as each drink has its own set of complexities with unique notes, when tasted neat or mixed with the right element can make a great drink

It’s World Cocktail Day so we checked in with one of SSP America’s cocktail experts, Vice President of Commercial Joshua Barone. Here’s what Josh had to say about one of his favorites, the Boulevardier. “One of my favorite cocktails to make and experiment with is a Boulevardier. In general, I gravitate towards spirit-forward, complex, and more bitter vs. sweet cocktails. A Boulevardier delivers on all of that. “A typical starting point for a Boulevardier is 1.5 parts whiskey, 1 part sweet vermouth, and 1 part Campari. It’s a similar formula to a Negroni except you’re replacing gin with whiskey and going a little heavier with the whiskey. However, there is a lot of room for experimentation based on personal preferences, including what type of whiskey to use (bourbon, rye, etc.). You can even combine multiple types of whiskey to include a small portion of a peated whiskey for smoke, use of various bitters to add additional flavors/complexity, bring the recipe closer to equal parts for all ingredients, substitute other bitter liqueurs for Campari, etc. It’s a drink you can really make your own! “Check out the attached recipe to see how I’ll be celebrating World Cocktail Day!” - Josh Barone, Vice President of Commercial

Cold vodka, warm whisky: why? In the realm of spirits, understanding the nuances is paramount. 🍸 Vodka, celebrated for its clarity and subtlety, is traditionally served chilled, masking any potential harshness and highlighting its refined smoothness. 🥃 Whisky, a beverage rich in character and complexity, unveils its full spectrum of aromas when served warm. From the undertones of honey and caramel to the pronounced notes of nuts and dried fruits, its warmth is a gateway to a sensory experience. It's essential to recognize that while traditions offer guidance, personal preferences play a pivotal role in one's drinking experience. So, as you navigate the world of spirits, how do you resonate with your drink? Is it the chill of vodka or the warmth of whisky that appeals to you? Let me know in the comments below! #sonalholland #masterofwine #servingtemperature #alcoholtips #winesandspirits #vodka #whisky #whiskey #WineExpert
