Ever wondered how to make meaningful connections beyond your immediate circle, or how to pioneer new paths when facing resistance? Today, 20ish years after I was a SHPE student, I had the honor of addressing these questions and more as the keynote speaker at the SHPE RLDC conference. 🌟 1️⃣ On networking with people outside of your circle: The key is to listen actively and be genuinely curious about their stories. Starting conversations with admiration can lead to rich, aligned connections. 2️⃣ Trailblazing amidst opposition requires empathy and curiosity. Understanding the 'no's can sometimes turn them into 'yes's by finding common ground and addressing underlying concerns. 3️⃣ Discovering my path involved recognizing my unique problem-solving approach and seeking environments that value meaningful work and growth. It's about living your purpose, no matter where you are. 4️⃣ Unpacking soft skills can be as simple as asking what one would do with unlimited resources. This can reveal a wealth of innate skills and potential. These incredible questions from students not only enriched our discussion but also highlighted the importance of empathy, curiosity, and alignment in our professional journeys. And talk about a full circle moment - Diana Gomez, who was the SHPE president when I was a student, was my MC today. How amazing is that! What insights would you add based on your experiences? Sensitivity: weakness or superpower? Highly sensitive individuals (HSIs) often perceive their sensitivity as a hindrance in professional settings, encountering feedback about being overly emotional. However, research reveals that being an HSI can be a profound asset in the workplace. Here’s why: 💡Empathy: HSIs excel in understanding others' emotions, enabling them to empathize deeply and build strong relationships. 💡Creativity: Their rich inner world fosters imaginative thinking, enabling them to uncover unique solutions to complex problems. 💡Attention to Detail: HSIs exhibit meticulousness, spotting errors and ensuring tasks are completed to high standards. 💡Intuition: Their strong gut instinct aids in quick decision-making and effective risk assessment. 💡Resilience: Far from fragile, HSIs demonstrate resilience, bouncing back from setbacks with determination and grace, invaluable in high-pressure environments. 💡Creative Problem-Solving: Their imaginative nature facilitates innovative problem-solving, offering fresh perspectives. 💡Strong Work Ethic: HSIs are driven to excel, consistently meeting deadlines and surpassing expectations. 💡Adaptability: Despite preferring quieter environments, HSIs thrive in diverse settings, showcasing versatility and adaptability.

First, avoid getting bogged down in figuring out the "how" to achieve the goal. For your best shot at accomplishing the goal, first you want to clearly and vividly visualize the end result. The more clearly and more often you see it (feel it, taste it, smell it and make it 100% real in your imagination), the more likely it is to become real in the outside world. Creating reality from a vision or idea requires energy, but it happens all the time. The more thought given to the idea, the more energy comes to your aid. Visualization is a key ingredient in changing old habits and creating new habits for the future. Professional athletes and researchers use visualization techniques, which are also used in medicine, psychology, and education. These pictures of the desired future are key to successful accomplishment. Remember that where the thought goes, energy flows, and if you can clearly see it, you are more likely to "be" it. This is how your mind works as you move toward your goals.

Reflecting on this journey, there are a few key takeaways that stand out to me: 1.     Embrace Fear but Don’t Let It Stop You: It’s okay to be scared—fear is natural. But don’t let it paralyze you. Push through it, because on the other side of fear lies growth and opportunity. 2.     Preparation is Key: The more you prepare, the more confident you’ll feel. My delegation’s support was invaluable, but so was my commitment to putting in the work. 3.     You Deserve a Seat at the Table: Imposter syndrome is real, but don’t let it convince you that you don’t belong. If you’ve been given an opportunity, it’s because you’ve earned it. Own that space. 4.     Your Voice Matters: Speaking at the Global Assembly reminded me that our voices, especially those of young people, are powerful. Don’t be afraid to speak up and share your story. 5.     Networking is Invaluable: The connections I made with other youth delegates will last a lifetime. There’s so much to learn from others, and those relationships can open doors you never knew existed. 6.     Enjoy the Journey: Amidst all the hard work, don’t forget to have fun. The experiences, the memories, the laughter—they’re all part of what makes the journey worthwhile. So, that’s my story—a story of overcoming doubt, embracing opportunities, and finding my voice on the global stage. I hope it inspires you to take that leap of faith, to push through your fears, and to claim the space that’s rightfully yours. Because if I can do it, so can you.

Proud moment 😍 I am genuinely passionate about creating a positive impact and have always found fulfillment in being responsible for both myself and those around me. This innate strength resonates in my personal goals and adventures, infusing them with a contagious energy that those close to me can feel. Although I may not readily acknowledge this strength and might attempt to remain humble about it, I've reached a juncture where I must affirm to myself, 'Hey Aminat, you are a person of impact, leveraging a distinctive approach.' While Tech Kiddies has its own compelling and fascinating narrative, its essence is rooted in the desire to create meaningful impact and maximize resources. This drive has propelled me to a point where forming alliances and unions has become imperative to elevate this mission to the next level. In this journey, ITET emerged as a pivotal element. Being selected as one of the 50 participants holds significant weight, especially when you consider that the selection process sifted through over 2800 applications. The application process, involving pitching and deep introspection across two stages, became a forum for discovering meaning and connecting with my inner self. It's truly gratifying to see my efforts acknowledged. Future Perspectives, the orchestrators of the program, are a group with a passion that resonates deeply. The #ITET program itself is a well-crafted experience, and I cannot overstate the effort, interest, and commitment that went into its design. Even as I eagerly continue to learn on Day 3, having already experienced two days filled with enriching content, it's evident that the team has curated an exceptional lineup of speakers. These experts are not just proficient in their fields; their teachings have left a lasting impression on me. Our superb organizer Abimbola Asekun surely gave the program her all. @Nathalie's section was detailed on Pluralism and I do look forward to Giulia Ribeiro Barão's class today, serious student I am 😅 Let's take a break, do have a great day everyone, and thanks for staying connected.

Find What, When Seated With, Will Attract Better in the Future Our journey towards success is greatly influenced by the people we surround ourselves with and the environments we choose. "You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with" emphasizes the need to choose associations wisely. Here are key strategies for attracting a brighter future: Identify Positive Influences: Surround yourself with mentors, colleagues, or friends who embody the qualities and success you aspire to achieve. Seek Growth-Oriented Environments: Choose environments that foster learning, innovation, and personal growth, such as progressive workplaces or supportive communities. Foster Meaningful Relationships: Build relationships with individuals who share your values and vision for collaborative opportunities and mutual support. Embrace Diversity: Engage with diverse perspectives to gain unique insights and foster creativity. Focus on Mutual Benefit: Cultivate relationships where both parties gain and contribute, ensuring a balanced dynamic of support. Continuously Evaluate Your Circle: Regularly assess your associations to ensure they positively contribute to your growth and align with your long-term goals. Be the Influence You Seek: Embody the qualities you seek in others to attract similar people and opportunities. Conclusion: Strategically surrounding yourself with the right influences is crucial for attracting better opportunities and benefits in the future. The people and environments you choose today shape your tomorrow.

Zig Ziglar once said, "Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation." As young professionals, prepare yourselves. Learn as much as you can, and stay ready for when chances come your way. The key point is "Don't wait to get ready. Stay ready", so that you may grab any opportunity that comes your way. If you are about to attend a critical conference, take time and research the topics, the speakers and possible questions to ask or key points to contribute, in case an opportunity comes your way. That is what being ready means. Be ready to give a vote of thanks, introduce the speaker or give a short energizer! Some speakers never show up, and others are not uplifting. You will be needed in the room. Work it up and shine. Stay ready.

The Key to the World of Success The Pacific Institute has been studying success since 1971, studying the difference between the cans and can-nots, the do's and do-nots, and the secret of success. The Institute has learned from some of the most successful people in the world and has spent time with respected research psychologists. The secret of success is "Attitude." People who succeed do not have fewer problems, better parents, or more money, but they often start with a dream and a will to make it a reality. They have a way of seeing obstacles as possibilities and making the most of every opportunity, almost guaranteeing success. When facing unexpected challenges, it might be helpful to check your attitude. Ask yourself if you are getting in your own way because of your outlook. By changing your attitude, you can change your perspective on what you perceive and what your senses tell you. This can lead to different outcomes and open up a whole, previously unseen world.
