Ever heard of the 'Window of Tolerance'? It defines the range within which we effectively manage stress and emotions. Understanding this concept is crucial as it helps individuals expand their tolerance window, enhancing emotional regulation and adaptability. In today's fast-paced, toxic world, mastering the art of navigating our tolerance window is more critical than ever for fostering resilience and well-being. On a related note, Dr. Gábor Maté's book delves into the challenges of our current toxic world. 'The Myth of Normal' explores the impact of trauma, stress, and the pressures of modern-day living on our bodies and minds. Over four decades of clinical experience, he has come to recognize the prevailing understanding of “normal” as false, neglecting the roles that trauma and stress, and the pressures of modern-day living, exert on our bodies and our minds at the expense of good health. I am currently reading Dr. Gabor Maté's book (alongside other books) and learning something new from it every day. I'm curious, what are you currently reading? #readingisimportant #themythofnormal #drgabormate #windowoftolerance

We all know people who seem to function well under stress. They seem to be stress resistant. Were they simply born with that attribute, or can it be learned? Simply said, did you ever wonder if it was possible to develop some degree of "immunity" to extreme stress, especially high pressure situations? What a gift that would be! Well, while a student working in a psychphysioogy lab, I watched as people learned to develop stress resistance. We were interested in the effects of relaxation techniques on muscle tension. What we discovered and later documented was the effect of a simple 10-minute breathing technique on a proxy measure of amygdaloid (fight-flight") activity. Our proptocols were tracticed on well over 1000 subjects spanning several decades. In this paper just published in the journal Crisis, Stress, and Human Resilience, we report on a sample who learned to successfully reduce stress in a high pressure situation. Imagine the potential! Less stress, less mistakes, better performance, better health may all be possible. https://lnkd.in/e8SWG4nF
