USAF re-optomization Taiwan “The PLA operational concept of system destruction warfare, which seeks to paralyze the enabling capabilities of an adversary force. Accordingly, the PLA constantly assesses USAF operational readiness for weaknesses to exploit. US force generation just prior to the start of a conflict would likely be struck by massive cyber-attacks from the PLA Strategic Support Force (PLASSF) to deny communications, spread disinformation, and hack logistics system. The USAF has now proposed a new ‘unit of action’ configuration, the combat wing. The combat wings will train extensively with multiple capabilities and be prepared to rapidly deploy, even when communications are badly disrupted. They will have their own native command-and-control, mission, and support elements. By pre-building cohesive units trained to the mission, the effects of a PLA paralysis attack on force generation can be mitigated.”

New article for the Global Taiwan Brief! I assess the implications of USAF re-optimization for Taiwan. Taiwan shouldn't blindly replicate the requirements of an expeditionary air force. However, it is still important for Taiwan to consider USAF assumptions that in any conflict with the PRC, command, control, and communications will be under constant attack. Centralized command and control will be vulnerable to paralysis, and paralysis will mean defeat. https://lnkd.in/eaj7kSVy

Admiral Lee Hsi-ming,Taiwan’s former Chief of the General Staff, who developed and now advocates for the “overall defense concept (ODC),” said Taiwan needs a methodical change “that can guide the force structure, weapons acquisition, doctrine development, joint operational plan, joint training, logistics support” of Taiwan’s military.. ODC emphasizes deterrence by denial, calls for weapons that have high survivability, high precision, and low cost, in addition to force mobility and command and control system redundancy. … Taiwan should adopt the philosophy of “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. … Chinese threat Concerning when China could potentially launch an invasion of Taiwan, Lee pointed to statements from U.S. officials, who have said 2027 would be the year the People’s Liberation Army would likely have full invasion capabilities. However, China currently has insufficient amphibious lift and lacks joint operations experience, including weapons, tactics, doctrine, logistics, and equipment, Lee said. Even after gaining the ability, Beijing would still have to conduct massive air bombardments and missile strikes to neutralize Taiwan’s military assets, installations, and command posts.. ….”

𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 $𝟮.𝟱 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗶𝗿-𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗯 Poland's Ministry of National Defence finalized a $2.5 billion deal with the U.S. government for the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) This cutting-edge technology will synchronize Poland's air and missile defense weapons, enhancing their national security capabilities significantly. Scheduled deliveries from 2024 to 2031 will see Poland utilizing the IBCS to operate Patriot missile launchers as part of the Wisla medium-range air defense program and the Narew short-range equivalent. With plans to deploy the acquired systems across six Wisla batteries and 23 Narew batteries, Poland's defense ministry is taking proactive steps to boost its defense capabilities effectively. Deputy Prime Minister and National Defense Minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, emphasized the significance of this milestone, highlighting Poland's status as the second country, after the United States, to implement this integrated command system. Historic moment: what did Ukraine and the US agree on within the 10-year security agreement? Kyiv and Washington signed a bilateral security agreement in which the US undertakes long-term commitments aimed at supporting Ukraine's efforts to win the war and deter possible military aggression by the Russian Federation in the future. The US’ assistance will be provided in the following areas: air defense, artillery, armored vehicles, combat aviation, maritime security, cyber security, and critical infrastructure protection, among others. The US will support Ukraine in developing air defense and anti-missile defense systems based on the Patriot system and promote the modernization of the Ukrainian Air Force and the purchase of modern fighter jets. Cooperation on the development of Ukraine's defense and industrial base is foreseen thanks to joint defense research and support designed to increase the production of critical weapons. The agreement also defines the main directions for long-term US assistance in Ukraine’s economic recovery, the implementation of reforms, and continued support for the Ukrainian peace formula. The document records US support for Ukraine's future membership in NATO and refers to holding Russia accountable and exploring ways to use Russian assets to support Ukraine. https://lnkd.in/d6dMVTiG

U.S. and Netherlands officials formalized a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LoA) agreement to purchase Lockheed Martin’s Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range (JASSM-ER). With this agreement, the Netherlands becomes JASSM’s fifth international customer. “We’re honored to partner with the U.S. Government to provide the Netherlands Armed Forces with the combat proven and mission effective weapon system to meet their ever-evolving strategic defense needs.” said Scott Redmerski, JASSM program director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. JASSM has experienced over 20 years of successful partnership with the U.S. Air Force, providing continued significant long-range, precision engagement capabilities for air-to-ground missions. The combat proven and mission effective weapon system is designed to destroy high-value, well-defended targets from significant standoff range, keeping aircrews well out of danger from hostile air defense systems without compromise to lethality or reach. Electronic warfare (EK) and reconnaissance are an important NATO requirement. Recent conflicts and the current security situation show how important the two capabilities are. In this respect, the German government's decision to include such an important capability as electronic warfare in the #Eurofighter capability portfolio is an important measure and we at Airbus Defence and Space appreciate the trust placed in us by the customer. EK will add this important capability to the already broad operational spectrum of the Eurofighter, reinforcing its status as "the backbone of the German Air Force". At the same time, it'll considerably add to European sovereignty and autonomy, sending a strong signal in favour of the Eurofighter programme.
