Are you feeling burnt out and in need of a break? Taking an extended break can be a daunting prospect, but what are we missing out on? Many corporates use the term ‘well-being’ to show they care about their employees, but what does it really mean to be happy? I’ve heard of a few colleagues taking a gap year, and it’s been life-changing for them. In our latest Usayso article about a ‘family gap year’, Mark shares his experience of taking time off with his family and how their experiences have changed their lives. Check it out and let us know what you think! #Usayso #FamilyGapyear #Wellbeing”

When I was 8 years old and on holiday in Portugal I rather fancied the 20 something kids holiday rep called Colin! I remember trying to get his attention by playing a game super super fast 😂 Now there are 70,000 staff at Tui. With thousands of destinations around the world. But just four years later we went on holiday again. This time a winter holiday in a completely different country. And can you guess who the kids rep was? It was non other than Colin! What a coincidence! Well this story isn't over yet... Aged 19 I became a holiday rep and one of my destinations was Rethimno, Crete, Greece. There was just one Kids rep in the region. Just 1! And the 1 kids holiday rep was none other than.. you guessed it... Colin! He quit just 1 week later after being a rep for 20+ years. What is the quickest way to bond with strangers? 👀 Asking others questions that invite great stories. I shared this story at a Business Women Connections event the other night I cannot take credit for this it was someone else who asked the group if anyone had had anything 'woo woo' happen to them. It took me 40 seconds to share that story, and following on from it everyone led with their own stories of coincidences. We all got to know each other and it was super interesting. Asking great questions to invite stories! Here are my tips for sharing stories: - Keep them to less than a minute (you don't want one person dominating conversation) - Follow on with a question 'has anyone had anything like that happen to them?' What great questions invite great stories? 🎉 #Day37 of 50 | #StorytellingJourney | Ask Great questions, Get Great Stories!

🌎visiting home this holiday season?🌎 Aurora Signorazzi writes that returning home for the holidays as an expat brings a mix of emotions. Amidst the joy of reconnecting with loved ones, expats realize that 'home' has changed, prompting them to prioritize meaningful connections over obligatory ones. Downtime becomes precious, challenging the notion of a true holiday, and requiring proactive planning for meetups. To avoid running from one appointment to the next, Aurora advices to “make your availability known in advance, try to plan a few big get-togethers, and confirm them well before your arrival.” What advice do you have for expats traveling home? 🏡 #ExpatLife #homefortheholidays

During my time working in senior living and traveling extensively, I've embarked on an incredible journey—one that has shaped my perspective on life and redefined my priorities. As I look back, I can't help but appreciate the unexpected gifts that emerged, especially during the challenging times like the Covid shutdown. Before the pandemic, I was constantly on the road, navigating new cities and supporting in senior living communities. It was exhilarating, but it also meant missing out on precious moments with my then 1-year-old son. When Covid brought everything to a halt, I found myself unexpectedly grounded—and it turned out to be a profound shift in perspective. During that time off the road, I had the privilege of watching my son grow, and experiencing his infectious laughter and milestones every day. It made me realize just how fleeting these early years are and how important it is to be present. The shutdown also prompted deep reflection on my work-life balance and priorities. I realized that while travel is enriching, it's essential to approach it with intention and thoughtfulness, especially when it comes to family. I've learned to be more deliberate in my travels, making sure that every trip aligns with my values and goals. Here are a few key lessons that have resonated with me during this transformative period: 1. Family First: Nothing is more valuable than the time spent with loved ones, especially during the formative years of a child's life. 2. Intentional Travel: Each journey should have purpose and meaning, aligning with personal and professional aspirations. 3. Work-Life Balance: Balancing career ambitions with family priorities requires conscious effort and adaptability. 4. Appreciating Minimalism: The pandemic highlighted the importance of simplicity and the joy of needing less. 5. Belief in Abundance: Despite challenges, I hold firm to the belief that opportunities abound for those who seek them. As I continue to navigate the intersection of senior living and travel, I am grateful for the wisdom gained and the renewed sense of purpose. Life is a series of adventures, both big and small, and I look forward to embracing each one with intention and gratitude. Here's to following dreams, cherishing family, and embracing the journey ahead! 🌟 #SeniorLiving #FamilyFirst #IntentionalTravel #WorkLifeBalance #Reflections

About 10 years ago (pre-kid), I found myself in a discussion about asking an employee to travel. This particular employee had one child and was a single mom. The conversation started like this: “She will not want to travel - we can’t ask her to do that.” I wasn’t a mom yet, but I knew that wasn’t the right call. Making assumptions about what people want out of their work/life isn’t fair. Giving people choices and trusting that adults can make their own decisions is the better way. We ended up asking her (pressure-free) if she wanted to go on the trip, and she said yes. She had family nearby who could help in her absence, and she figured out how to get the right support in place to make it happen. It wasn’t easy, but there was an element of work travel that she really enjoyed, and for her job, the travel was helpful (although not required) to do the job with excellence. Rather than making assumptions that moms/parents don’t want to travel, we need to ask - what can we do to make travel easier, more accessible, and more feasible - especially for families with young children? If you’re a parent, I’d love to know - what would make it easier/less burdensome on your family when you travel for work? Do you find travel impossible in this season? If not, what makes it possible? [pic from work trip to Shanghai last fall - made possible by a great company, incredible family support, and about a million other little pieces that had to fall into place]
