The European Journal of Radiology has decided to publish the study by the CDI Centro Diagnostico Italiano of the #BraccoGroup on the use of #artificialintelligence in clinical practice. The survey, carried out in collaboration with the Università degli studi Suor Orsola Benincasa, the Università degli Studi di Milano and the ASST Fatebenefratelli of Milan, involved 232 radiologists belonging to #SIRM, the Italian Society of Medical and Interventional Radiology. The growing integration of #AI into clinical practice is seen as an opportunity, and the majority of those interviewed believe that it offers valid support, but that the professional's opinion will always be decisive when choosing therapies. “#AI is becoming a key aspect of #diagnostics and helps #radiologists interpret images more accurately and quickly,” comments Papa Sergio, Director of the Innovation, Research and Development Unit of the Italian Diagnostic Center. “The goal is that it can predict diagnoses based on patient characteristics, bringing us closer to personalized medicine. But it will always be integrated with human clinical judgment." "The survey shows a strong need for training, especially among young people who do not feel they have adequate preparation to fully exploit these advanced technologies", says Marco Alì, Head of research management processes at the #CDI and curator of the study. “It is therefore crucial to collaborate with universities to develop curricula that meet the needs of radiology practice and address the medico-legal implications associated with the use of #AI”.

This is because of the mounting number of elderly patients, the rising occurrence of chronic disorders, rising knowledge about less invasive alternatives, and the growing acceptance of new scientific approaches. On the basis of product, the magnetic resonance imaging category led the industry and is estimated to advance at a CAGR of 4.5% during the projection period. This is mainly because of the enhancements in tech and the rising demand for magnetic resonance imaging systems. Furthermore, hospitals that are active in leading research and development have great resources and use of instruments, that work for the betterment of society, hence patients. They also support government and non-government establishments by encouraging awareness about chronic illnesses and their diagnosis through radiology. North America dominates the global interventional radiology industry. This is possible because of the growing cases of chronic diseases, the rising elderly populace, the obtainability of minimally invasive approaches, the high per-capita income of individuals, the deep-rooted healthcare infrastructure, improvements in technologies, and the growth of new items in the continent. Furthermore, as per the American College of Roentgenology, interventional radiology is a requirement for rural patients. Suitable care is not given to rural patients without these services. 𝐀𝐈 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 During my radiology department rotation in medical school, we attended morning sessions where radiologists read X-rays and CT scans. The room was always dark when the reading started. Some of us had to squint to see the pathology being pointed out and discussed. Senior doctors often stressed the importance of anatomy in the first year, highlighting how that knowledge would be applied in the dark, quiet room. I was thrilled whenever I could correctly identify any abnormalities on an X-ray. However, even the best radiologists can miss diagnoses for various reasons, including being overworked. AI has been shown to complement the work of radiologists and increase their efficiency. It can analyze numerous images and help human radiologists incorporate patient context into their diagnoses. AI will free radiologists from the dark basement, allowing them to finally see the patients whose images they are reading. This will enhance the important role radiologists like winland crispin play in directly helping patients understand the radiological components of their healthcare. However, this promising future comes with risks and issues that need addressing. The patient's best interest must be at the center. Minimizing issues such as false positives—like a false cancer diagnosis that could lead to patient harm—is crucial. Who will be accountable and responsible: the AI or the radiologist? Such ethical questions must be addressed by all stakeholders as AI in healthcare is researched and implemented in various settings to create effective AI models that improve and enhance healthcare. #aiinhealthcare #radiology #aiafrica #digitalhealth

We would like to highlight a very interesting article published in the journal Clinico Economics in 2022. The study compared the preferences of radiology operators using two syringe-less power injectors: CT Exprès® and CT Motion™. These technologies, designed to enhance contrast-enhanced CT imaging, were evaluated on ease of use, safety, cleanliness, and contrast wastage. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: -Higher Scores for CT Exprès®: Operators consistently rated CT Exprès® higher across all domains. Significant improvements were noted in ease of use and safety, with features like a wired power supply and dual interface receiving notably better evaluations. -Reduced Risk of Errors: The study highlighted that 70% of the items had a non-zero probability of error if risk-mitigating features were absent. CT Exprès® was perceived to better mitigate these risks compared to CT Motion™. -Contrast Media Efficiency: The closed fluid circuit feature of CT Exprès® significantly reduced contrast media wastage, emphasizing its cost-effectiveness and efficiency. -Operator Preferences: The comprehensive evaluation suggests that technological solutions in CT Exprès® align more closely with operators' needs, particularly in reducing the probability of errors and improving overall safety and cleanliness. This research underscores the importance of adopting advanced technologies in medical imaging to ensure high safety standards and operational efficiency.
