#Beer is part of Europe's heritage and continues to be chosen by millions of consumers to celebrate their most cherished moments, or to just enjoy a break. No matter what, beer is always there, and it is also a good choice. It's Europe's Choice. As a fermented low-alcoholic beverage, beer can help nudge consumers towards moderating their consumption, as a time-tested, evidence-based way to align business with public health objectives. Throughout the years, #Brewers have championed responsible drinking by collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders on comprehensive initiatives that address various aspects of responsible consumption. These efforts were paired with increased consumer information through transparent labelling and investments in no-or-low alcohol options to meet consumers' new demands. In view of the upcoming #EUElections2024, we call on EU policymakers to recognise the intrinsic nature of beer when drafting alcohol and other policies. We're feeling encouraged by all the discussion around real guidance and process for how to serve non-alcoholic beer safely on draft. Two things can be true at the same time. Yes, N/A beer can be more susceptible to pathogens due to the lack of alcohol. But, if handled properly, it can also be distributed on draft without putting patrons or the breweries at risk. The Brewers of Europe are #ProudToBeClear and believe in empowering people with information to make informed decisions. Thanks to the voluntary initiatives the European #brewers have undertaken, the latest figures report that 95% of beer sold in cans and bottles is labelling ingredients, while 88% of those containers are labelling energy values in the same manner that other foods and non-alcoholic drinks do. Although we remain committed to empowering consumers to make informed consumption choices, our efforts need to be adequately paired with proportionate, well-targeted and effective alcohol labelling legislation. That is why, when developing labelling rules, we call on policymakers to prioritise essential, objective, comparable facts while embracing the digital transition.
