🌊⚡ Want to understand "Tow-to-Port" operations for floating offshore wind? 🚢 As we reported a few weeks ago, we are currently tracking the second-ever tow-to-port campaign at Hywind Scotland (https://lnkd.in/d6xaNnAi). While we gather data from this campaign, let's revisit the only other tow-to port campaigns, which took place at Kincardine in 2022-2023. Key Learnings: ▪ The towing procedure accounted for 44-45% of the total duration of the main task because the floater had to be towed to Rotterdam, NL. A build-out of local ports is needed to avoid long tows. ▪ The second “tow-to-port” campaign saw a 36% decrease in time spent on the towing back and forth from the port, the repair in port, and the main on-site activities. ▪ The reduction in time spent occurred despite using a similar four-vessel marine spread. Improvements were noted across the operation for both the towing duration and the disconnection and re-connection of mooring lines and dynamic cables. Inter-array cable laying work begins at first large-scale US offshore wind farm

Equinor and Polenergia have signed contracts with Heerema Marine Contractors for the transport and installation of foundations and offshore substations for the Baltic 2 and Baltic 3 projects. The offshore work, scheduled between 2026 and 2027, will utilize Heerema's fleet of floating cranes. This contract includes the installation of 100 monopiles, transition pieces, and offshore transformer stations. Mr. Jerzy Zan, CEO of Polenergia S.A., emphasized the significance of the Baltic 2 and Baltic 3 wind farms, which will supply clean energy to over 2 million households. Pioneering Spirit contracted for largest wind farm in Baltic Sea

So much blue and yellow! This chart is beat up. Not enough vessels - still so many mob/demob and off-hire periods. Industry doing one-off mini-projects compared to what is needed to combat climate change. How much time is lost on mob/demob + off hire due to lack of industry standardisation?

In the vast expanse of the open sea, where once towering oil rigs and platforms stood as the only icons of energy extraction at sea, a new horizon emerges- one dominated by the sleek structures of offshore wind turbines. As the world shifts towards renewable energy, the expertise and skills honed in the oil and gas industry find new purpose in the offshore wind sector. It is indeed a great advantage for us as a collective that we are able to harness the vast expertise from oil and gas to orchestrate the installation of massive wind turbines, battling the same elements with a renewed focus on sustainability.

Indeed, quantity and complexity (eventually shortages) supported by engineering and wisdom to use it.
