How I turned a cancelled vacation into a Productivity Retreat that accelerated my progress on 3 stalled projects. Just as we were embarking on our vacation to Hilton Head, my wife had to cancel our planned week away together. Too late for a refund, and desperately in need of sunshine and some Low Country living, I decided to work remotely by myself from the beautiful oceanside resort we had booked. Here's how a simple change in scenery revolutionized my workweek, boosting my output and nourishing my well-being in the process. 🏝 Sleep and Eat Well: The sounds of the surf lulled me to sleep each night and awakened each morning refreshed. Being attentive to a healthy diet and daily walks on the beach, it provided the ideal foundation for a productive day. 🏝 Finding the Zone: Removing myself from the familiarity of my office opened up the space for deeper, more focused work. I identified three pivotal projects and, with a clear next step in mind, I mapped out my days, aiming to achieve significant milestones by the end of my retreat. I created a new daily rhythm for the week, including watching the sunset every evening while reflecting on my progress for the day, and planning for the next. 🏝 Elevating My Leadership Role: Broken business processes often linger on our minds, distracting us from strategic goals. My oceanside office provided the tranquility to diagnose these issues and craft comprehensive solutions—bringing back to the shore a refreshed strategy to optimize our operations and boost my team’s efficiency. 🏝 Generating Thought-Leadership Content: Without the usual day-to-day distractions, I could dive into absorbing and generating original thought-leadership content. The serene backdrop served as a muse, inspiring insightful reflections and strategic narratives about the world leaders live in today. This experience illustrated the importance of occasionally stepping away to gain a more profound perspective on our work's scope and potential. Special thanks to Massimo Santangelo and the team at the Marriott's Grande Ocean for providing a beautiful backdrop for my week. Could a change of scenery be the catalyst you need to break new ground and to foster a healthier, more productive work environment? How does your team manage to escape the ordinary for extraordinary results?

Ever heard of the three-places concept? The "Three Places Rule" is a concept that fosters a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle. Here’s how it works: Home: This is your sanctuary where you relax, recharge, and spend time with family or on your own. Work: Your professional environment where you pursue your career, achieve goals, and engage in productive activities. Third Place: A social or recreational spot like a coffee shop, gym, park, or community center where you can hang out, engage with others, and enjoy leisure activities. Maintaining these three distinct places can create a healthy balance between your life's personal, professional, and social aspects. Unfortunately, not everyone has all three of these three places. A disturbance in one has a huge impact on your performance in the other two places.

It's Talent Development Tuesday! This week, we’re shedding our shoes and wiggling our toes in the sand. As the summer sun shines brighter, it’s a gentle reminder for all of us in the corporate world to take a moment to recharge. Taking a vacation is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity for maintaining peak performance and mental well-being. Stepping away from the daily grind offers a chance to gain fresh perspectives, boost creativity, and return to work with renewed energy. Whether it’s a week-long adventure or a quiet weekend retreat, the benefits of unplugging are invaluable. Studies show that vacations can improve productivity, reduce stress, and enhance overall job satisfaction. Encourage your team to take that well-deserved break. Lead by example and show them the importance of work-life balance. When we prioritize our well-being, we create a more resilient and innovative workforce ready to tackle challenges head-on. So, pack your bags, set your out-of-office message, and embrace the rejuvenating power of a summer vacation. 🌱 Adding a touch of greenery to my workspace has truly transformed the way I approach each day. 🌿 👉Brightened up the environment 👉Breathed Fresh air 👉Boosted productivity 👉Reduced stress levels 👉Enhanced creativity 👉Reduced Eye Strain But the most wonderful part is that taking just five minutes to listen to my favorite melody while gazing at these plants feels like a short vacation. It's a refreshing escape that rejuvenates my mind and spirit. Have you added greenery to your workspace? If so, how has it impacted your daily experience?

Founder/ Managing Director, Happy Minds I Forbes 30 under 30, Class of 2024 I Mental Wellbeing Advocate
We traded deadlines for daylight ☀ and laptops for landscapes 🏔 Last weekend, team Happy Minds went on a 2-day hike to Chisapani and the following were my insights from one of the best (and most painful) team bonding experiences so far: 🙏 Breaking down barriers: Hiking can be a great equalizer, breaking down hierarchies and fostering a sense of camaraderie. You get to know everyone from the managers to interns on a personal level, outside of the usual work setting. 💪 Adaptability: Hiking presents with unexpected challenges, like difficult terrain or bad weather. Unfortunate situations bring opportunities for individuals to step up and take on leadership to the team to adapt and overcome obstacles together. This will be valuable when we go back to the workplace, where things don’t always go according to plan. 🐝 Communication and motivation: Navigating unfamiliar terrain and making decisions as a group encourages you to learn to express your needs and concerns, listen to others, and come to a consensus. Soon finding ways to learn each other’s communication preferences, and adapting ways to sing a chorus of cheers for motivation to push everyone forward are vital memories to count on when thinking of seeking support in the workplace. 🌳 Appreciation for nature: Spending almost 14 hours in the hills, walking over 50,000 steps was refreshing and a great grounding experience. You gain a new appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors and the importance of environmental protection. This leads to a more sustainable mindset both at work and in personal life. In upcoming months, if you see any of these smiley faces knocking on your doors for workplace mental health advocacy, make sure to also ask about their experience during the hike! #happyminds #teambuilding #grounding #mentalhealthbreak #nepal #chisapani

In his old life, our Founder, Tom Sutton's long working week was spent chained to a desk. At weekends he found himself commuting out of town for some fresh air and headspace. Today Tom’s office is the beach (and wherever running corporate retreats take him). We're loving this recent Evening Standard article on how Sauna Box came to be (link in the comments) ⬇️ #employeeengagement #corporateretreats #teambuilding #workplaceculture #employeeexperience #leadershipdevelopment #professionaldevelopment #teambonding #companyculture #employeewellbeing #corporateevents #staffdevelopment #workplacewellness #employeemotivation #teamwork #corporatetraining #employeeretention #employeesatisfaction #employeerecognition #businessretreats

Creating a culture of wellness takes intentionality and time. As a wellness tech company, BetterYou strives to walk the walk and create unique ways for our team to find time in the day for their health. One area we do this is through instituting a Summer Four Day Work Week. From Memorial Day (5/27) to Labor Day (9/2), BetterYou team members work four days per week. This is our third summer with this policy in effect. Here’s what we discovered the past two: 1) People feel happier and more effective when they have an extra day to enjoy summer time each week (especially with a majority of team members in Minnesota where warm weather is so fleeting) 2) Continuing to hit weekly goals required finding ways to be more intentional with how we spend our time such as blocking deep work times and creating & sticking to top priorities each week 3) We were able to maintain our target goal attainment metrics to move the company forward Time is our most valuable resource - how will you spend yours this summer? 🤔☀
