This is a bad one and people will lose lives, homes, pets, dignity and will suffer a tremendous blow. Donations have started to come in and it will require a meaningful amount to help these communities rebuild. We have a Miami warehouse filled to aid in all aspects of a relief and recovery effort. This is a model I created atter Hurricane Maria so we would always be ready to load and distribute aid immediately. This aid is donated from our trusted loyal partners. We have also implemented the "crisis kit" model to be distributed to families and individuals so they have the basic essentials to survive the first phase of a disaster. As I respond to text messages checking in to see how we weathered Hurricane Helene and scroll through pictures of downed trees and flooded streets, I find myself thinking about disaster #fundraising. Over the next few weeks, millions will be donated to support those impacted by this storm. People will pull out their credit cards without even thinking. Why? Because of the urgency of the need. People who lose their homes need our help. People with nowhere to go need our help. People trying to figure out what happens next need our help. Urgency. When #donors understand the urgency of the need in front of them, they are more willing to act. Last week’s tornado was big test but proved that once again the Spring Hill and Maury County community can rally together and support each other in times of need. Lots of gratitude for all the County and City Public Safety teams that came together immediately and helped those in need. Often overlooked in times like these are the Public Works departments. They worked tirelessly to help clear roads, remove debris, clean up destruction and deserve our thanks and appreciation as well. Many small and locally owned businesses, churches, community groups and individuals stepped up and served as well. Several Spring Hill City employees were directly affected by the tornado. One city employee lost everything, their home, vehicle, and belongings. Two other employees have damage to their homes significant enough to make their homes uninhabitable. Additionally, four other employees suffered less severe property damage to their homes, vehicles, etc. If you’d like to help the City employees (or anybody else affected by the tornado) there are several options -         Direct monetary donations can be dropped off at Spring Hill City Hall. Anything donated at City Hall will go directly to the City employees impacted by the storm. -         Food donations can be made through The Well. -         Non-food donations can be dropped off at Tennessee Children’s Home on Doc Robertson Rd. -         The Maury County Office of Financial Management is also accepting donations for anyone wishing to help victims throughout the county. If you want to truly help, don't clean out your garage or go shopping, send cash. Friday Reflection Supporting Hurricane Helene Survivors Today, I want to acknowledge the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, which made landfall on the Florida Gulf Coast as a Category 4 storm. This disaster has caused widespread flooding and destruction, resulting in a tragic death toll of 215. As rescue crews continue to search for survivors, I, along with many others in the People Leadership community, extend our heartfelt concern and support to those affected. I've seen some great ideas shared online to help those impacted by this catastrophe.
