Even though I posted a link to what I'm doing next I have yet to post about what I'm doing next, so here goes... As a lifelong racket sports lover and tournament tennis kid, it's no surprise I got into pickleball. That's why I'm thrilled to introduce The Rally Spot. Pickleball has seen explosive growth - over 200% in the last three years alone. Yet, the demand for courts, especially in metros like Los Angeles, far surpasses the supply. There are other issues with the public pickleball scene as people have to deal with no nets, poor surfaces, confusing lines, no organized games, no place to hang out, and you have to deal with the weather.  But...everyone does it because they love the game and the social aspects that come with it. Of course, there are private clubs, but those are expensive and closed to the public. The Rally Spot aims to change that by providing public, convenient, fun, and weather-proof spaces for pickleball enthusiasts and newcomers to enjoy. At The Rally Spot, we're transforming vacant neighborhood retail spots into awesome indoor pickleball hangouts. By repurposing existing locations, and creating spaces that people want to come to and hang out at through our pickleball classes, clinics and leagues, unique on-court events, our awesome lounge, and event space we're not only meeting the demand for pickleball courts, we are also building a place of community. Like the old TV show Cheers these will be places where everyone knows your name. The Rally Spot represents more than just a business venture to me. It's a passion project combining my love for racket sports with my entrepreneurial spirit. I'm excited to create spaces where people can come together, hang out, have fun, and build connections. Plus, being at the forefront of the fastest-growing sport is incredibly exhilarating! York City fans have shown remarkable dedication this season, traveling up and down the country to support their team with an unwavering loyalty that’s the heartbeat of the club. The relationship between leagues and organizations with the players continues to dramatically evolve. Reggie Bush is getting his Heisman back after all these years. NCAA Portal has forever changed college sports, making players free agents with annual transfers due to Collectives. Novak attempting to create a new players union in Tennis to create new financial incentives for not just top players but to allow all professionals to have a standard of living. My two cents is if you are not in the Top 50/60, you are barely making it which is crazy to think. The PGA TOUR is starting to issue equity payments, eight year vest, to 193 players with the 36 “superstars” splitting a pool of $750M. #YouthSports: after only two days into a four-day weekend of three different sports multi-day tournaments, I can't help but think about all the money involved in it. Sure, I played sports as a kid, in high school, and even in college. After college, I got into Strongman 💪 and Highland games for a few more years. But it wasn't until now that I saw it as a well-organized and robust mechanism for #economics benefit. Everyone had league, coach, and game fees of thousands of dollars. Almost everyone here came from outside DC, so that means airplane ✈️ tickets, hotels 🏨, and meals totaling additional thousands of dollars. The benefit of supporting the #restaurantbusiness in the area desperate for customers downtown is noteworthy. I'm curious if the money flows into the individual teams' franchise style or is it concentrated around the major venues and tournaments. Maybe it varies significantly by sport. I don't know. Over a decade ago, I almost bought someone's shares in a minor-league baseball team. At that time, I was surprised that the two things that made the majority of the money were the attached parking garage and the youth camps. Sport and Community Engagement go hand in hand. But on the surface it doesn't seem apparent. Dig down and at every level of sport there is a need and a desire for more and better community engagement. While sometimes not in the traditional sense, as can be very event based, even at these events so much engagement can be achieved more than just kicking, hitting or shooting a ball, puck... urm shuttlecock for the first time. A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN & CHIEF EXEC As we prepare to welcome our good friends from Cove to Links Park for our last fixture of 2023, we would like to extend our warmest season’s greetings and sincere thanks to you all, our supporters, sponsors, staff, management, volunteers and players. Reflecting back over another eventful 12 months, it would be easy and natural to consider the end of last season as being disappointing, given we finished out of the top 4 for the first time in Stewart’s seven-year reign. However, given the stature of the clubs that have both dropped out of the Championship and come up from League Two in recent times, the standard, quality, and level of competition in our division has grown significantly year on year, especially with the inclusion of full-time opposition. We have therefore had to put a huge effort into all aspects of the Club, both on and off the field, simply to remain in this league, and so for many reasons, we consider last season to have been another successful campaign. A number of changes were made behind the scenes over the summer, which were done to enable the Club to focus on building a stronger future, and we expect to bare the fruits of this in the years ahead. In the short term however, the financial pressures faced by many clubs continue to challenge us. We always have, and will continue to furnish Stewart with as big a player budget as we can, but we must acknowledge the limitations we face. Day-to-day life is extremely challenging for many people at the moment, and this has a knock-on effect to all kinds of businesses and organisations, and we are no exception. And so, as we look forward to a New Year together, our ask of you all is a simple one, please continue to support the Mighty MO in whatever way you can, large or small – every penny spent on tickets, merchandise, hospitality and sponsorship is greatly appreciated and valued by the Board and the management Team, and we simply could not run the Club without it, or without YOU! We are all part of a great Club, with a fantastic community spirit, and under Stewart’s guidance, we continue to be experiencing the most successful period in our history EVER……! We will start the New Year in the top half of the league giving us a great platform to kick-on for the second half of the season. 👀 Controversial opinion: How to sell season tickets once your season has already started? ... Don't! Instead, consider subscription season tickets. Subscription-based season tickets offer both fans and clubs the flexibility to sign up whenever they want. This means less focus on separate on-season and off-season marketing campaigns, and a more year-round approach. For some, it can also help to spread the club's income throughout the year rather than being reliant on a bulk settlement at the start of the season. Clubs such as Bohemian Football Club, Oxford City Football Club and Hull Seahawks have taken this positive step towards a new season ticket model. Why shouldn't sport follow the subscription model which we so commonly use across other aspects of our lives? Of course, subscription season tickets might not work for all clubs. For those who still use the standard season ticket model, have you considered trying to boost your mid-season sales through a "half" season ticket or a 3-match bundle? And let's not forget club memberships, which can grant other perks and create additional value for your supporters. 🛍 💡 Flexibility and creativity in ticketing can lead to increased engagement and satisfaction among fans, as well as more consistent revenue streams for clubs.
