What equipment are you on? I may be from the Old School but that was a frequent question asked amongst pilots when I was coming up through the ranks. Someone would mention a particular airplane and you would hear the term, excellent equipment. I am going to suggest that the possibility exists that individuals who have been around or have an understanding of equipment or machinery perhaps may make a better pilot. Someone who has operated a boat for example or a tractor. Someone that has operated farm equipment or a fork lift or back hoe. Maybe a person who has driven a Go Cart or Race Car that understands speed, weight, aerodynamics and balance. Tires, momentum, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, air cycle machines, turbines, valves, fuel pumps, cooling, energy management, spacial orientation, time, speed etc. Someone who has watched a mechanic work on a piece of equipment. Watched a plumber or HVAC technician operate on equipment that understands Heat Exchangers or Fluid Dynamics. Never stop learning or wanting to learn. I watch and ask questions of every professional I hire to do a job without being annoying. I learn things every day at age 67… Captain Art

People think being a technician/ artisan or simply a Mechanic is all about having a dirty work-suit and getting your hands dirty and moving around as a sign of hardwork . But no it’s not not the case, infact you should be the cleanest of them all. Those components - machinery you handle should never come in contact with any dirty particles of such, which may affect the operation or function of equipments in general.
