Engagement is important

This first post Paris Olympics week is still carrying the buzz of excitement and inspiration! What was it about this Olympics that had many of us at hello?! Paris’ historic beauty is undeniable. In collaboration with the greatest sporting event on this planet, it was the first Olympics with full gender parity and delivered across 32 sports many magnificent moments, heartbreaking defeats, moving stories of the athlete’s pilgrimage to get there, fun entertainment (Snoop Dogg did not disappoint!), excellent “play by play” coverage and unity. For all of the upheaval in various parts of the world, the ability of the global sports communities to come together in respect and support, even in the throes of intense competition, was a master class in how to do it. -Lift one another up and celebrate the achievements -Learn from the experiences -Recognize the generations of Olympic athletes who came before and paved the way to be better, along with the competitors who pushed the level of performances to the highest and best in the moment -Appreciate all of it and the village of people who were an integral part of the journey While there were issues; some that could be quickly addressed and resolved, some that required an alternate plan and others that are still smarting from a questionable decision, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games captured our heart's and broke many records. #ParisOlympics #WaytogoUSA #lovewhatyoudo #teamwork #healthandwellbeing #LA2028

Teamwork Makes The Dreamwork. Regardless of who is on your team...you won't get very far if you are not all rowing in the same direction...or...swimming in the proper lane!! The US women set a new world record in the 4 x 100 medley relay race...and it was not really even close. In a sport separated by tenths or hundredths of seconds, they won by over 3 seconds! Anyone in business can easily make the comparison of team sports and your team in business. Everyone having a job to do, and the other teammates depending on one another to do that job...for the success of the project, the company...or the race! I am loving these Olympic games...the stories of triumph and overcoming obstacles are just so inspiring. And, the sheer emotion of the wins, slight losses or just even finishing... is visible on every competitors face... be it these amazing young women here or so many other athletes from around the world. So freakin' cool!!! A Team Davie goal in recent years has been to take the kids to the Paris 2024 Olympics. Jon/Dad helped bring the Olympics to London, way-back-when. So this goal was meaningful to us. And this week we achieved it… We watched the football - men’s and women’s - and the women’s rugby sevens (Team Davie’s two favourite sports); We cheered for Iraq, Argentina, Columbia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, Australia, Ireland, France, USA… and, of course, for our very own Team GB; We travelled to Lyon, then to Paris, then back to Lyon. We took planes, trains, trams and the Metro, and we averaged 12km on foot each day, in 35 degree heat - a feat of endurance and, at times, one that tested our team spirit! We saw winners, losers, celebrated heroes and unsung ones: namely the 45,000 strong team of volunteers who welcome, chaperone and signpost the millions of fans from all over the world, the professionals, who work tirelessly for years to prepare the hosting cities for the biggest show on earth, and the fans themselves, who flock from the 206 competing countries to support the 10,714 sportsmen and women. The Olympics is astonishing: it is as audacious as it is inspiring. It teaches us what we can achieve when we dare and when we come together. It’s about competition on the field and collaboration and inclusion off. It’s about audacity, ambition, courage, determination, physical and mental strength, overcoming adversity, valour, heroism. It’s about individual and team spirit. It’s about setting goals, hard work, sacrifice and achievement. It showcases our global diversity *and* commonality. It demands the best of us individually, while giving us a deep sense of belonging. I wonder how we might extend, amplify and emulate the spirit of the Olympics in our teams, organisations, communities and teams? I know that I return to my work as an exec and leadership coach feeling inspired and invigorated to enable others to perform like our awe-inspiring Olympians. How we transformed a summer of sport through technology.... please read on. For the past few months, sport fans everywhere have been engaged with a summer of sport – from grass courts and a festival of sport in Paris. Whether you watched from the sidelines or on-screen, the stories of triumph have been unmatched. We’re proud to say that through our tech and digital transformations, we’ve been right there, helping the LTA, Team GB and ParalympicsGB further advance their impact this summer. Here's a small recap of some of the things we’ve worked on… 🎾 We worked with the LTA to transform tennis using technology, bringing an organisation with over 100 years of history to new people and new places. This included improving website accessibility, to how you book a court, and introducing the LTA’s first membership programme to make tennis more relevant, accessible and enjoyable for everyone. In the last year alone, we’ve welcomed over 2.1m new players, signed up 23,176 teachers, and seen a 31% increase on community park courts. We did this through our Global campaign, ‘The First Effect’, which we co-created with the International Olympic Committee – IOC to recognise the impact made by ‘firsts’ in the sporting world. We also worked with alliance partner, Salesforce, to implement new technology and systems to help both organisations capture, connect and retain their fans.   💭 We created a digital experience called Mindscape that takes people inside the mind of an athlete to understand what it really takes to be a champion. But this isn’t about being a champion in terms of medals, podiums or winning, but a champion for mental health, resilience, disability and inclusion – areas of shared impact for athletes, Team GB, ParalympicsGB and Deloitte.
