💨 Carbon Filled PA6 UAV Rudder 💨 Roboze ‘s high performance FDM technology is not just good for offshore parts underground, it’s also great for components going high up in the sky! The example I want to show today is this UAV rudder which we produced back in March. The rudder plays an important role on a UAV, its design has to fine tuned to be prepared for any challenge e.g. turbulence or high/low operating temperatures. The best way to tackle these problems is to pick robust materials and create parts that push the design boundaries of that intended process. For example, traditional manufacturing would make a rudder like this in a solid piece via composites & iteration would be slower/more expensive. Weight reduction would also be reliant on the material used as design flexibility is limited. However by using Prototal | UK, companies can utilise these technologies to produce complex geometries like honeycomb structures to decrease part weight while maintaining the same tensile strength. Our recent work on a UAV assembly highlighted the role of system-level validation testing in ensuring product performance. By predicting assembly’s structural performance via system-level validation testing, we’ve gained insights that are invaluable for future projects. By conducting in-house fatigue testing of the whole assembly, we ensured that the UAV met rigorous performance standards which is challenging to estimate via individual component simulation and testing. 🚀 Finite Element Analysis of a Predator Drone Design 🚀 I recently had the opportunity to dive back into an exciting previous project where I performed a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of a predator drone design using #SolidWorks Dassault Systèmes. 🔍 The analysis focused on two critical aspects: 1. Fluid Flow Simulation: I conducted a detailed simulation of the fluid dynamics around the drone's body to optimize its aerodynamic performance. This step was crucial in reducing drag and improving flight efficiency. 2. Static Simulation of the Blades: Ensuring the structural integrity of the drone's blades was key. The static simulation helped assess the stress and deformation under various operational loads, leading to a more robust and reliable design. This project not only enhanced my skills in FEA but also deepened my understanding of the complexities involved in UAV design. A New Class of Vertical Take-Off and Landing Aircraft Unlike traditional VTOL designs that separate propulsion and lifting systems, the new configuration integrates these functions to reduce overall system complexity and improve aerodynamic performance. This arrangement allows for reduced specific thrust requirements, lowering noise levels and energy consumption. Additionally, the strategic placement of propellers enhances lift without necessarily increasing the wing area, leading to a compact yet highly efficient design.

I've been running into a burnout phase for the past few weeks and taking a break from opening anything related to design or simulation. Basically, I just took a walk in the park and took a little break to recover before it got worse. Now, I sort of recovered, and the first thing I did was designing a wing and prepare it for a simple one-way fluid-structure interaction. (Ignoring contact non linearities) Did you know that you can export the surface pressure from your CFD solver and map it to your geometry in FEA solver to have a fairly accurate aerodynamic loading condition?
