Building Equity and Equality for the black Transgender community in the South! Founder of The Trans Games, Breathing While Black & Trans and Color N Raw.
In the discourse surrounding the decriminalization of oppressive laws, transparency and the pursuit of practical solutions are paramount. However, it's essential to acknowledge that Black transgender individuals should have the same privilege to voice their concerns in spaces. To address this disparity, a proactive approach is needed to create inclusive environments that invite and amplify the voices of Black transgender individuals. By fostering these spaces, we can ensure that their perspectives contribute meaningfully to the discussions surrounding decriminalization, fostering a more equitable and just society.

Storytelling isn’t just a form of entertainment. For George M. Johnson, writing has the power to change lives. The award-winning Black non-binary author was named to the TIME100 Next, TIME‘s annual list of rising stars, and Out’s 100 Most Influential LGBTQ+ People. Their New York Times bestselling memoir, All Boys Aren’t Blue, is a powerful recounting of George’s adolescence growing up as a young Black queer boy in New Jersey. In this quote, George emphasizes the incredible power of storytelling, and how it opens paths for others to live their life more authentically. In talks, they illuminate issues that Black queer people still face today—like toxic masculinity, LGBTQIA+ policy and law, and intersections of oppression—and how these issues play out in communities on the ground. With honesty and openness, they show us how we have the power to create a world where all young people are free to be fully themselves. Circa 2021: Human Rights Campaign "As we honor Black History Month, the Human Rights Campaign is committed to and focused on racial justice, equity and inclusion and combatting discrimination in all forms. The past year has brought the consequences of unchecked racism into sharp focus, which in so many ways aligns and intersects with the experiences of the transgender community. In 2020, HRC tracked a record number of violent fatal incidents against transgender and gender non-conforming people, the majority of them Black trans women. This is the result of misogyny, racism and transphobia that is deeply rooted in society; we must work to end the stigma of being Black and trans and combat this epidemic of fatal violence. True liberation requires all of us to be united in defeating oppression. None of us can be free until all of us are free. This Black History Month, we’re reminded of the invaluable work of our Black, queer ancestors and of the important work still yet to be done."
