🌈 Celebrating Diversity Beyond Pride Month - Let's Make an Impact with Small Decisions 🌈 As Pride Month comes to a close, it leaves us with a reminder that our celebration of diversity shouldn't end here. The small decisions we make every day can have a significant impact on fostering inclusivity and progress. We often believe we're supporting diversity, but it's important to reflect on how our individual actions contribute to the cause. Sometimes, it's the subtle, unconscious ways we interact that can make a difference. Consider a personal example from my family. I have four boys, ranging from a high school sophomore to college graduates. If I asked them all for vacation activity ideas, they'd likely suggest something like riding quads because it's "fun." However, if I included ideas from a female cousin or a girlfriend, shopping might come up as "fun" too. This simple example illustrates a complex issue. Our backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives shape our ideas and decisions. Embracing diverse viewpoints leads to richer, more innovative outcomes in all areas of life. Let's continue to champion diversity and inclusion, not just during Pride Month, but every day. Happy Monday to you! I hope you are having a delightful start to your week. We are well into December, and I am happy to wake up to see another day. Over the weekend, I review the week to prepare for the next week. About three years ago, I created a process called St/Ops, in which I keep track of my strengths and the usage of my strengths for my developmental opportunities. More importantly, I keep track of the activities that create more inclusion. Most often, it is riding in a random Uber and sharing what I do for a living or even getting on a webinar and people being excited about the business that I have created. It is remarkable that when we put inclusion at the forefront, it opens the door for connection. I even reminded a gentleman yes, inclusion, includes you too! (as noted on the IOTS website www.incslopes.com):) Even if this was not my business, I would continue to share my story, for inclusion is too good not to share. Have a wonderful week! In contrast, the Olympics in Paris have shown a powerful display of unity amid competition, highlighting the potential of coming together, even in rivalry. Returning to the UK after a decade in Australia, where I worked with the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, I've seen firsthand the impact of creating spaces where people feel heard. In a world where some leaders are encouraging chaos and division, it's time for us to come together and find unity in our diversity. Our work at Morris Hargreaves McIntyre increasingly focuses on inclusivity, diversity, and intergenerational engagement. Cultural spaces play a crucial role in uniting communities and encouraging dialogue, offering platforms for meaningful conversations and reflections. I’ve always admired Manchester’s history of resilience and unity. As we navigate these challenging and divisive times, supporting and engaging with communities, places and spaces is vital.
