🚀 Exciting Announcement! 🎮 I’m thrilled to announce the release of Kingdom Stronghold – our very first game developed for PC during our internship at Phantom Cave Studio! 🎉 This has been an incredible journey filled with learning, teamwork, and many sleepless nights, but the results were worth it! 😄✨ 👥 Team Members: 1. Khizra Faisal – UI/UX Designer 🔹 Game Concept: It’s a tower defense shooting game where players place towers to protect the kingdom from enemies. Each enemy defeated adds +100 to the score, and the game is won when all enemies are stopped. If any enemy crosses the path, the player loses. I’ll be putting my passport away for a little while... So I can focus on the exciting opening of our new HQ over the next few weeks!! Join us March 22-24 to talk about it. AI is on the rise and it seems to be threatening animation careers. Everyday seems to come with the news of another studio closing or massive layoffs. In the 1990s there was a similar shift of technology. Rapid advancements in computer-based animation cause traditional artists to fear for their jobs. We will talk about how in that time, we not only survived, but thrived. Your project has multiple stories to tell, but finding the right medium to express them can be challenging. It could be an animation, 360 VR, or a collection of still images. Each medium is valuable, but the story will come across differently depending on the one you choose. That’s why hiring a CGI consultant is crucial—a true partner in crime. Is 'place in plan' the biggest indicator of how much attention an asset gets? Did the idle animation for NPC02 really need all the attention it got simply because it showed up as a task early in production? I was rewatching a video by Tomáš Jech. He's an animator with a pedigree that is... well I'll just say he's worked at some of the big names in movies and games. Impressive stuff. He calls out one of the most brutal realities of game dev indirectly: You won't have time late in production. It will run out. When it does, are you going to be sad where you spent your 'extra' time? Are you going to wish you had that time for the thing that came late in production that now you barely get to QA before shipping? There's an attitude I often see early in game dev, whether on a team or at a studio, and it's this trick of our minds that says, "We have tons of time. There are months left!" Our better selves, our forward thinking selves, know that we all end up in about the same place, making hard prioritization calls of what we are going to finish vs cut. But early on, it just seems like there's a lot of flex, we'll catch up later (no you won't), we can always come back to it (will you though?). We get caught in that vibe, and almost don't notice as we shift from those hours spent in careful review to having a teammate look at something for 3 seconds to spot anything horrific before saying, "SHIP IT!" and getting back to their own work. What if we took the harder look, the "awesome enough" approach, throughout dev rather than just at the end when it becomes "good enough" instead? How much time would we be able to prioritize on what NEEDS time, instead of getting stuck in a world where there is no time to give, and you just move as fast as you can and hope nothing breaks? Worth thinking about, if you're a studio out there ideating or in preproduction. #gameproduction #gameindustry #gamedevelopment #crunch

I tried to find a witty Wallace and Gromit quote to begin this post but I couldn’t, so I’ll just say it as simply as possible… 👋 It’s time for me to move on from Aardman and explore what opportunities and challenges are out there. 💚 I’ve had an excellent time at Aardman over the years. From beginning as a freelancer 7 years ago, to joining full time as a senior developer and more recently being the interactive development lead; it’s been a joy to work alongside such a talented group of passionate, lovely people. 🤔 So what’s next? 👨💻 My primary skillset sets me up to continue in roles as a tech lead; leading the development of interactive projects and games, collaborating with and empowering creative talents to craft unique experiences without compromise. I've got 15 years experience building projects in Unity, from the beginnings of iOS to modern XR devices. That’s the obvious path, but I also want to consider how the above experience can complement other interests and skills of mine. 💬 I love doing talks. I have such fond memories of travelling as Product Evangelist at Unity, delivering talks and workshops and generally connecting with the wider development community.  Not many jobs afford such an opportunity, but at the very least I'd like to start visiting more events and sharing knowledge. 👂 Having recently signed up for Limit Break and joining the Video Game Ambassador programme, I’m looking to continue working with the creative community and providing support, feedback and mentorship where I can. I’m curious to see how I can build on this in the future. 💪 I’m also interested in looking at what other angles I can approach the creative industry from. Client success, product ownership, consultancy, publishing - all things that I’m interested in looking in to and talking to people about. 👤 At this point though, I’m excited to just connect with, talk to and share stories with people in many different areas of the industry and see what fits. Careers are never a straight path, so let’s embrace the messiness and see where the next turn takes us.
