I hear that Governor Walz is at the Minnesota State Fair today, and his first stop was getting a Pork Chop on a Stick. I walked past that food vendor on my way out of the fair yesterday and it smelled sooooo good! I am partial to the Pork Schnitzel sandwich, but sometimes your food choice depends on how long the line is. 🐖 I had the opportunity to represent the cannabis industry 2 times at the fair this year. Both were educational sessions, but there was no shortage of requests for samples or something to purchase. After spending 12 hours chatting with hundreds of fair-goers, here are my biggest takeaways: 🍹 - People want cannabis beverages served at the fair. They don't want alcohol. You can buy a beer at 8am and keep drinking all day, but you can't have 1 canna beverage. 👵 - The mature crowd LOVES CBD cream and gummies! They are sick and tired of big pharma pushing crap meds and have found that they can get wonderful relief from pain, sore muscles, bruising, sleep issues, etc...from it. They are educated and understand they are not getting high from CBD, just feeling better. 🍦 - People want samples! They want to try gummies, and beverages, and topicals. They want to buy it too. 🌽 - Everyone agrees that MN is taking such a long time to roll out the adult-use market. They continue to travel to other states to purchase higher dose products, and when I was unable to give a good answer to "When can I buy flower here in MN?", they were frustrated. 🎡 - I got many "Thank you for fighting the good fight!" comments. People are frustrated by the lack of federal legalization and understand this slow state by state roll-out, without the federal government's approval, perpetuates the prohibition mindset. 🚜 - Minnesotans LOVE growing! Its easy to know that. MN is a huge agriculture state. Many people shared pictures of their home grows with much pride. 💚 Educating and advocating for the cannabis industry at such a prominent event has been a valuable opportunity to promote awareness and foster acceptance. Here's to continued efforts in normalizing cannabis and addressing the evolving needs of Minnesota residents! 🌿🎡🌽

The passing of AB 1775 marks a pivotal moment for the cannabis industry, opening the doors for cafes and experience-driven cannabis spaces across California that combine cannabis products with food, beverage, music and entertainment. This new law allows licensed cannabis retailers to serve non-cannabis food and drinks and host ticketed events, pushing the cannabis business beyond product sales and into the experience economy. How will dispensaries and lounges leverage this expanded potential revenue stream? In a recent blog post for CVCAN - Coachella Valley Cannabis Alliance Network, Brian Applegarth explores this massive opportunity for cannabis businesses in tourism-heavy areas like the Coachella Valley—a region that thrives on its visitor economy. The modern traveler is seeking unique, immersive experiences, and now is the time for cannabis businesses to integrate fully into California’s travel landscape. Read more to explore the exciting potential opened up by AB 1775 (🔗 in comments). 📸: Photo of The Woods lounge in West Hollywood by Joshua Porter #cannabistravel #cannabislounges #california #cannabistourism #experientialmarketing #experienceeconomy

Bavarian gov’t: 🍻 Beer over bud at Oktoberfest Authorities in the German State of #Bavaria have indicated the intention to ban cannabis at the Oktoberfest. 🚫 For some people, this announcement represents a potentially paradoxical stance: Might the government be endorsing alcohol over cannabis? In #Germany, the legalization of cannabis took effect on 1 April. Adults can now legally carry up to 25 grams for personal use and cultivate up to three plants at home. Yet, the use of cannabis around minors remains strictly off-limits, and its consumption is prohibited within 100 meters of educational and recreational areas for children. For the international crowd, Oktoberfest is about partying and beer indulgence. For locals, Oktoberfest is equally about amusement rides, games, music, and family outings. 🎡 Bavaria's rationale for the Oktoberfest ban? Minor protection. What are your thoughts? Should #Oktoberfest go on without cannabis, or is there room for a middle ground?

New blog post for emerging cannabis companies having trouble with Gen Z: The misconception that cannabis is replacing alcohol is hurting branding and marketing decisions for cannabis brands looking to stay relevant and reach a strong niche customer following. Our research shows that only 15% of users prefer to use cannabis in a social and party setting. Brands should instead opt to label their products as anxiety cures and solutions to just chill!
