These interviews are from our mini-documentary "D-Day by Land, Sea, and Air," where we spoke to Veterans who served in each of those aspects on Operation Overlord 80 years ago. Watch the whole thing on our YouTube. Some more facts about the equipment used in the invasion of Normandy: -The Allies had to build two portable, temporary harbors to facilitate the offloading of equipment on the beaches. -The Brits laid PLUTO (Pipes Under the Ocean) along the bottom of the English Channel to help ensure a steady flow of fuel for the guys in France. -Much like the famed "Ghost Army," dummy paratroopers called "Ruperts" were dropped by the Allies to mislead Germans about the invasion points. -The "Churchill Crocodile" tanks were basically tank-flamethrower combinations and they were used to clear out bunkers and other fortified positions. -The U.S. Military knew the casualties would be high. They made so many Purple Hearts in preparation for the invasion that we still award those surplus medals to service members wounded in combat today.

My father was one of the thousands of US soldiers to land that day in Operation Overlord. He's pictured here in England, a few days before making the crossing for the invasion. I believe he was 20 at the time. Great family photo to have. The man definitely knew how to rock a helmet.

Lest we forget. Thanks, BRCC for highlighting those men and women of the Greatest Generation and those willing to fight for freedom in the face of tyranny and evil. Too many of the rising generation don't have a clue what was done then to preserve freedom, and shame on our schools for not teaching them of what it took back then to preserve freedom and fight against the forces of evil that are rearing their head again in our day with all of the antisemitism so prevalent on our own soil today. God Bless America and God bless those who fight and die to keep us free both then and now. May we never forget their sacrifices.
