On this Emancipation Day, we honour the historic moment in 1834 when the Slavery Abolition Act came into effect across the British Empire, marking the beginning of the end of slavery. In 2021, the House of Commons unanimously designated August 1st as an official day of celebration, recognizing its profound significance in our shared history. As we celebrate this day, let us also reflect on the continued journey towards freedom, equity, and justice. Emancipation Day serves as an important reminder of the resilience and strength of those who fought for their liberty and human rights. Let us use this occasion to honor the past and drive positive change for a more inclusive future. #EmancipationDay #History #Freedom #Equality #SocialJustice #HumanRights #Inclusivity #Unity #ChangeMakers #Emancipationmonth

🍼🤱🏾October 1-7 is National Breastfeeding Week in Canada, a time to reflect on the importance of equitable breastfeeding support for all families. This year’s theme, “Closing the Gap,” highlights the disparities that affect breastfeeding success, especially for Black, Indigenous, and rural communities. For many, access to the right support—whether in healthcare settings, workplaces, or public spaces—remains unequal. Black mothers, in particular, face unique challenges, from a lack of support from healthcare professionals and employers to the emotional toll of racism and historical trauma surrounding breastfeeding. This week, let's advocate for more inclusive and accessible breastfeeding resources to ensure every family, regardless of their background, can meet their infant feeding goals. #NationalBreastfeedingWeek #BPAO #HealthcareEquity
