There are countless reasons why I chose to attend Columbia Business School, but the journey to this decision was deeply personal. For starters, I wasn’t sure if I could get in. Columbia has always been my top pick—its legacy and reputation are unparalleled. I considered other schools like NYU and Wharton, but in the end, I only applied to Columbia. It felt like the right place, the right challenge. Columbia’s business school is steeped in a history that resonates with me, especially given its remarkable alumni—icons like Henry Kravis, Harvey Schwartz, James Gorman, Mario Gabelli, Li Lu, Todd Combs, and, of course, Warren Buffett. The school’s stature as one of the top business schools in the world was both intimidating and inspiring. A few years ago, I explored other graduate business programs closer to home in the Midwest, but I couldn’t justify the tuition and the opportunity costs. I kept asking myself, “Is this really worth it?” But Columbia was different. It offered the pedigree I sought, an alumni network rich with experience, the vibrancy of New York City, and professors who are not just academics but active industry professionals. There were several things about Columbia that would be a catalyst for the next chapter of my life. I’ve always been a lifelong learner. Those who know me understand my passion for reading and my insatiable curiosity. For me, going to grad school isn’t just about acquiring another degree even though I already had two accounting degrees—it’s about pushing myself further, expanding my horizons, and continuing to swing for the fences in both business and life. What holds us back is often what we don’t know. And while getting an MBA isn’t a magic solution, it’s a step I’m taking to bet on myself and invest in my future.
