A team from CMU-Africa's CyLab-Africa/Upanzi Network found that 83% of digital square global goods used in the health sector included secrets that were at risk of being exposed. The team includes Theoneste Byagutangaza ,Junias BONOU and Hirwa Emmanuel. The research group's goal is to advocate that software developers practice better cybersecurity, which can be accomplished by making the products secure by design. Security by design is an approach in which software is created from the beginning of the design process to withstand attacks, and advocating for it is a key part of the Upanzi Network's mission to contribute to the open-source community. A few weeks ago, Emmanouil Perselis provided valuable insights into the application security approach at CM-MC, sparking a lively discussion at the Belgian Cyber Security Coalition Focus Group on application security. He discussed various aspects, including different application development stacks, IDE plugins for early SCA, SAST, and container scanning, a mix of internal and external pen testing, Copilot development support, and triage based on exploitation prioritization. In breakout sessions, we addressed topics such as legacy systems, initial onboarding, prioritization, and triage. We delved into the 'No Triage' principle by applying the latest stable versions of container platforms. Additionally, we tackled the vulnerabilities backlog by emphasizing the ownership of product owners and risk sign-off by the business. It's always fascinating to bring together application security experts from a wide range of organizations—academia, startups, and medium to large enterprises—for valuable open discussions on this often underemphasized area of application security. MaxPatrol O2 secures victory at Standoff 13: hackers foiled by cutting-edge defense At the Positive Hack Days cyber festival, in the final of the Standoff 13 cyber battle, the top white-hat hacker teams couldn't bypass the MaxPatrol O2 system from Positive Technologies. In the competition, four teams were tasked with carrying out forbidden actions — stealing money or interfering with software development, with a prize of 7.5 million rubles. However, none of the teams managed to escape the autonomous SOC. MaxPatrol O2, in response mode, detected and prevented attacks on Positive Technologies' infrastructure replica. IIt identified and stopped malicious activities, demonstrating high automation and minimal need for specialists. This final battle demonstrated that MaxPatrol O2 can effectively protect infrastructure even from the most skilled hackers, ensuring the safety and reliability of Positive Technologies' systems.
