Did you know that watching comedy in a group can significantly increase your endorphin levels? Endorphins, our body's natural painkillers and mood elevators, are released when we laugh together, making us feel happier and more resilient. Research shows that this endorphin boost can also enhance our physical endurance. Imagine being able to hold a wall sit—a tough exercise where you "sit" against a wall without a chair—for longer periods, all thanks to a good laugh! I wonder if anyone has considered how this could be a useful tool in pain management and rehabilitation.
This makes so much sense to me. I love going to comedy shows and feel that boost you're talking about. The physical benefits are new to me though! The idea of using this in pain management and rehabilitation is very clever, we need more of this kind of thinking!
Thanks for this insight, Bill!! I actually used it this morning. I have a friend in the hospital that is in a lot of pain and instead of focusing on her current reality, we were able to get her focused on something funny! While laughing did cause her some pain, it was different and helped relieve some of the stress she is experiencing. I truly believe Laughter is one of the Best Medicines! Thanks for the reminder and all your wonderful wisdom!!
Ooo, I like this mental / physical endurance connection! As a runner, did you experience your mental state impacting your physical endurance?
I’m so glad Bill Nolen to know should maintain my wife and I evening routine of watching something! 😎
That is fantastic Bill, I have often though to coaching comedy to enlighten ourselves as to say
