The rise of remote work has opened more doors for women in the workforce, but it's also blurred the lines between the office and home. Women continue to shoulder a greater share of caregiving responsibilities than their male counterparts, meaning many working mothers have found their energy constantly diverted between professional responsibilities and domestic duties—from client calls to school pickups. The result? A 'second shift' hindering women's career advancement and well-being. More from The Wall Street Journal on how remote work policies, unequal childcare responsibilities, and gender norms contribute to this ongoing challenge for women: https://lnkd.in/e_pt6Uag

Agreed that gender norms and work policies need an update. Yesterday I completed a LinkedIn Learning class called "4 phases of women's careers" by Avivah Wittenberg-Cox. Her research-driven observations and ideas were inspiring. Key points were: - corporate systems designed by men for men need an overhaul - women flooded workforce during WWII and were then told to return home - now women earn majority of higher ed degrees, are consumer decision makers and will inherit bulk of the much-talked-about wealth transfer - global population is aging and life expectancy is increasing so retiring at 65 will not be the standard in the near future - younger men want to be active fathers and paternity leaves are critical - diverse ideas from different genders and generations make teams, ideas, projects and community stronger Flexibility in business structure and acknowledgement that men and women have different career phases will help shift toward gender and generational balance.

I would've never thought that I would say that mothers should think about leaving their own children's upbringing to other people's hands while they are at work for high-powered or not.

This reminds me of the post on African women. It is a wonderful thing that you are doing in Africa. To enable women to take care of themselves and become independent is a magnificent achievement. This will be the case if women allow it to be. If they do not allow it, it will change. How many times do women have to prove that they are more than capable of changing things…???
