Bill Gates' AI adaptation strategy in Africa, particularly through extending access devices and training to children in Kenya, is indeed commendable. However, in many African countries, the primary challenge is not just access but also the broader facilitation of technology adoption. In Uganda, collaborative networks such as the RENU, Nita Uganda and the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) are playing a significant role in bridging the technology and content access divide. These initiatives focus on creating robust digital infrastructure, promoting ICT literacy, and enhancing access to digital resources across various educational and research institutions. Supporting and scaling these initiatives is essential for ensuring inclusive access to technology and information. By prioritizing the facilitation of technology adoption through such networks, we can create a more sustainable and widespread impact. This approach not only complements strategies like those implemented by Gates foundation but also ensures that the groundwork is laid for broader and more equitable technological advancement across the continent.

Great to see Kytabu and Tonee Ndungu! The backend costs are indeed falling - even since recording the costs have fallen by a third. But the big improvements will come from not just the large general model costs falling, but from us working together to ensure the content in the models is high quality and caters to kids from Kenya (and other LMIC's) directly.

Amazing to see this! Iinterestingly I volunteered with SuitUp Incorporated in NYC and the students I mentored for the day had a similar idea! Their idea was to have an adaptive learning program that kids could take tests and the teachers learning plans would automatically adapt using AI to adjust to students needs. It also had a way to submit questions that students may be shy to ask in large groups so teachers could check in 1:1. Loved seeing the creativity and brilliance from middle school students!

I couldn't agree more with Bill Gates final comment! We at Pendulum Systems first took AI to Africa in 2018 as Macro-Eyes with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to empower health #supplychains while the United States struggled to unwind their minds and systems enough to bring meaningful #AI to #healthcare here. Africa led the way for our technology which is now used with #Fortune500 companies, USAID, United States Department of Defense/United States Air Force and other African Nations.

Bill Gates, Africa, computer, is two of your five themes. How many African countries have you visited? Africa is so vibrant, this planet would be boring without it. As a woman under New Zealand visa regulations I dont think I can travel to anywhere there but South Africa, maybe Egypt, Kenya and Tanzania (Serengeti National Park) on a small tour. The film Mogambo filmed in Kenya is one of my favourites, and Captain Phillips filmed in Somalia starring Tom Hanks. The immunizations to avoid disease there is compulsory. It is peoples birthright there, and ones own country needs respect, there are always cross cultural communication.

The scripture “Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more.” (Proverbs 9:9, NLT) relates to the topic by emphasizing the value of education and continuous learning. 1. Personalized Learning: AI tailors education to individual needs, helping students grow wiser by addressing their unique learning styles and requirements. 2. Teacher Support: AI aids teachers, allowing them to focus on instructing and enriching students’ knowledge more effectively. 3. Resource Accessibility: By making quality education accessible to remote areas, AI helps everyone, regardless of location, gain wisdom and understanding. 4. Data Insights: AI provides valuable insights to educators, helping them enhance teaching methods and make students even wiser. 5. Language Translation: Overcoming language barriers with AI ensures that knowledge can be imparted to all, enhancing learning. 6. Cost Reduction: Making education more affordable with AI means more people can receive instruction and grow wiser. The importance of educating and empowering people, aligning with the goal of AI in advancing education across Africa.

Thank you Mr. Bill Gates, Co-chair, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; & that was a very informative educational based conversation; together with it's interview, & the key questions; as ask by Tonee Ndungo, Entreprenuer. Tonee's Mobile App, is brilliant, and it's Dashboard; for the School Teacher to focus: where, & when the students are in need of help in the Video clip. Additionally, I agree with your comment about the front end, of the New African Educational Models, which are being able to be used, but the DPI would enable Africa's Educational Models to use the best & latest of Gen-AI for Education. New AI Security Layers [power-over-fiber], with DPI can be fully built in & incorporated into the Infrastructure, Education, & E-Rail Transportation, Agriculture & it's Healthcare. In Africa, both in Healthcare & Education, dual purpose can use similar & secure platforms, in which to execute on. In Africa, the Energy for Educational AI, along with the School Teachers Centralized Dashboards, like in Newark, NJ; will work well & track home school students well, for Education; in multiple dialecs & languages. Well done & I understand your comments whilst talking with Tonee; from Kenya. I remember t/Sony-Walkman too. Best, Dean A.
