Recovery in air travel is fading out - Which are the global emerging markets for future growth? Airlines and airports should exploit all opportunities to tap into new customer segments and markets together. Visionary thinking is just as important as consistency when entering new markets like India, Africa or Latin America. Inspiring panel discussion with Michael Kerkloh (Lufthansa), Michael Eggenschwiler (Hamburg Airport), Marco Pernetta (Innsbruck Airport) and Tewolde Gebremariam (Delta Airlines). thanks for having me! #aviation #airport #universityworms #ccam #newmarkets #recovery #airlines #aviationmanagement #airtravel #aviationevent

Did you know? Fraport AG, our parent company, is active around the globe. The portfolio includes 30 airports around the world, among them our 14 regional airports in beautiful Greece. Fraport’s home base is in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Here, it operates Germany’s largest aviation hub: Frankfurt Airport. Thanks to almost 81,000 airport employees, millions of people can explore the world from FRA every year. Starting 2026, many of them will embark on their journey from the new Terminal 3 which is currently being built in the south of the airport. Outside Frankfurt’s airport site, there is also much to see, or rather “to taste”!😉 For example, the renowned “green sauce” which is considered a cult dish in Frankfurt. What do you think: Can this Hessian dish compete with our Greek delicacies? 😝 #FraportGreece #ConnectingTheWorldWithTomorrow

Today, Singapore Airlines announced that it will be launching new 4 weekly nonstop flights to Brussels, Belgium effective 06April 2024. All services shall be flown using an Airbus A350-900. This marks the return of SQ into the Belgian market after a gap of two decades! With BRU being both a business and political hub in Europe and SIN being a regional power business hub for ASEAN overtaking HKG, one can expect a high number of business class traffic flying not only p2p but also using SQ via SIN to other popular destinations such as PVG, HKG, BKK, SYD and NRT. As one can see from chart below, the top 20 revelant feeder markets for SQ on the Brussels route, Australia is not going to be a focal point since the demand levels are very light. But rather, I foresee SQ going after volumetric traffic bound to Indonesia, Thailand, MNL, HKG, KUL and Vietnam in particular. With regards to the p2p traffic being 33,000 pax, one expects SQ to easily stimulate this figure by +40% during its first full year of operations. P2P yield is relatively high averaging out to be US$ 1740 round trip with YQ included which means there is a decent amount of business class travel on this route itself. Just fyi, traffic bound to Bali (DPS) is more so in the European summer season versus winter (unlike other ASEAN countries) due to rains in the latter period. Belly cargo too is expected to be fully booked in both directions on this route which shall provide a vital source of incremental revenue as well as yields with perishables and pharmacuticals being uplifted. All in all, this new service has a lot of potential for SQ in the long run and one should not be surprised if it increases to a daily flight by Year 3. Edit - error in chart below as Hanoi should be 22,251 pax :) #bru #brussels #belgium #staralliance #skyteam #a350 #oneworld #singaporeairlines #singapore

🌐✈️ Exploring Lufthansa's little operational landscape at BER Airport 🏢🇩🇪 📊The latest political briefing of Germany's biggest carrier tries to give insights why LH does not serve any longhaul destinations from this €10 billion capital airport. 🤔🔍 🌏 While TATL flights are depicted on the graph, the current eastward routes to Beijing, Doha, Dubai, and Singapore present an absence of Lufthansa's briefing. This raises strategic questions about the airline's role in enhancing connectivity to and from Berlin. 🇩🇪🤝 Lufthansa faced challenges in Berlin in the past—recall Lufthansa Berlin, dumping longhaul ops, Eurowings Berlin, among other instances. However, the past does not dictate future success, as demonstrated by the achievements of airlines such as Qatar Airways, United Airlines, Scoot, Hainan Airlines, and Norse Atlantic Airways in the same market. Success is attainable for those who adapt and innovate. The full briefing can be found in the comments below. 💬🌐 #AviationStrategy #ConnectivityMatters #LufthansaOperations 🛬🌐

OAG announces the winners of its Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) Aviation Network Champions. The list recognizes the journey toward recovery airlines and airports in the ASPAC region have been on since 2019. Key categories look at frequency and capacity growth for both long and short-haul operators, and the most improved networks and recovered routes. Using the world’s largest network of flight information and market performance, OAG determined the most successful airlines and airports based on connection and capacity growth, and recovery. Categories include: 1. Capacity Growth Airlines: Awarded the highest growth (%) in airline capacity between 2019-2023. 2. Frequency Growth Airlines: Those with the highest increase (%) in flight frequency between 2019-2023. 3. Most Improved Network Airlines: Those who added the most new flight routes in 2023 vs 2019. 4. Most Recovered Airports: Established by airline capacity growth (%) between 2019-2023. 5. Fastest Growing Airports: The highest growth rate (%) in airline capacity change from Q4 2023 vs Q4 2022. VietJet leads the pack across three airline categories: Capacity Growth and Frequency Growth (both for short-haul LCC), and Most Improved Network. Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta is the Most Recovered airport, and Hong Kong is the Fastest Growing. The list also recognizes key route performance in the past year, including Incheon - Tokyo Narita as the Most Competitive International City Pair. “The global aviation market has fully recovered with ASPAC still lagging behind. Depending on global macroeconomics and the full recovery of the Chinese outbound market, the full recovery should occur end of 2024 or early 2025,” said Mayur Patel, head of the ASPAC Region at OAG. “With rising aircraft orders placed in the region, increasing disposable incomes, and a hunger for travel, ASPAC is poised to lead the industry in the next decade."
