June is Pride month 🏳️🌈 Have you considered what it is like to be a member of the LGBTQIA+ community in your workplace? 🤔 Businesses have an obligation to ensure that whatever diversity legislation they have put in place filters down to every member of staff to raise awareness and understanding. This includes the use of preferred pronouns. Respectfully ask which pronouns an individual would like to use and ensure that this preference is met. It is also important that any claims of harassment or homophobia are taken seriously. One in five LGBTQIA+ employees have experience verbal abuse or bullying in the workplace and one in eight people would not feel confident reporting such an experience. Many within the community feel there are not enough role models in the workforce to encourage LGBTQIA+ employees to be open. To counter this, businesses should advertise their diversity policies prominently on their website. Or, in job adverts, state something along the lines of "We welcome applications from the LGBTQIA+ community." Challenge negative stereotypes and attitudes to ensure that your workplace is a safe and welcoming environment for people from all walks of life 🙌🏻 Happy Pride month! #pridemonth #lgbtqia #inclusion #diversity

As Pride month comes to a close, let’s reflect on the importance of inclusivity in the workplace. We’re committed to ensuring the values we celebrate during Pride Month - diversity, acceptance and equality, are upheld every day of the year. Pride Month reminds us of the progress we’ve made and the work that still needs to be done. It’s a time to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ colleagues, friends and community members, and to reaffirm our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive. As we kickoff Pride Month celebrations, it's important to remember that while we've made significant strides towards equality, there's still work to be done. Pride is more than just colorful parades and joyful celebrations; it's about recognizing and addressing the inequalities that persist. Despite the progress we've seen in recent years, many LGBTQIA+ individuals continue to face discrimination, prejudice, and systemic barriers in various aspects of their lives. From unequal access to healthcare and employment opportunities to higher rates of homelessness and violence, the disparities faced by queer and trans folks are stark reminders of the ongoing fight for equality. Our top priority is creating and sustaining a culture of belonging and learning by: ✅ Allocating resources towards DEIB-focused employee development initiatives, inviting external speakers, and providing educational resources to increase awareness of key topics. ✅ Implementing inclusive recruitment and hiring strategies, including sourcing candidates from diverse backgrounds, and forming diverse interview panels to ensure equitable opportunities for all applicants.   As we celebrate Pride, we don’t lose sight of the work that still needs to be done.    Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈✨ #PrideMonth #Ultragenyx #Advocacy #Inclusion 

Whilst Pride month has passed us by, we find it of great importance to make it clear that even when these moments of celebration and allyship have gone, we stay true to our commitments. In our field we are always working towards equality, we support diversity, and are often educating people on the importance of recognising everyone’s differences. We cause change, we open dialogue, and we build space for people to be their true, authentic selves. Supporting the LGBTQIA+ community is a passion of ours - recognising everyone for who they are is imperative, it should never be an option. We are always proud to commit ourselves to being allies to the LGBTQIA+ community. Do you make it clear to potential hires and existing employees that you are too? Appreciate John Daniel McCourt and ADWEEK for shedding light on a lot of what I have and currently experience. Working in the DEI (specifically in #advertising) space as a Queer Trans Non-Binary Latine -- I often dialogue with clients to reconsider what actually supporting the #LGBQTIA2S+ community is, especially in light of #Project25 and with more than 600 anti-trans bills currently being considered in the U.S - 63 of which are federal. Whether it's about employee experiences, workplace culture, or the creative - the work we do needs to be humanity focused and purpose lead. It requires everyone regardless of identity. In corporate, we need to actively and directly partner with the community. In addition to being a DEI professional, I'm a Non-Binary drag artist and the influence drag has had on culture is undeniable. We do more than just lipsync at your company's Pride Happy Hour, in fact, I've started showing up to some corporate networking events in drag just so the art form is taken seriously outside of a bar & entertainment environment. I encourage you to bring (AND PAY EQUITABLY) drag kings, queens, artists, activists, and performers to these strategy conversations, you might learn something. And for the folks in the LGBTQIA2S+ community (especially intersecting identities) - navigating corporate and today's world has felt heavy (at least for me). I'm still here though, striving to break stereotypes and barriers, and most importantly ensuring these conversations don't just stop at the end of Pride Month. It's imperative now more than ever. However you feel, remember to take care of yourself and that you're not alone. It's Pride month, a time for more than just adding rainbow borders to our profiles. Let's actively support our LGBTQIA colleagues by valuing their input and treating them as equals at the table.
