Nonprofit internships are a win/win for everyone! Students get the chance to see first-hand how their skills can be applied to help others, and be inspired to build a meaningful career (no matter what industry they end up in). Nonprofits are able to expand their project reach and further their mission with the help of young minds. This full circle benefit empowers eager students as they enter the workforce and fosters a culture of active citizens. Often, students are geared more towards corporate internships with large/established companies. Although great for some, there's a growing number of students who want to join teams that share their values and are actively working with their communities to promote and create sustainable change. My nonprofit internship opened my eyes to a whole new way of using my business degree and I can happily say I love my job and take great pride in knowing that I go into work every day to help others in some way. Moral of my story; don't ignore the little guys! Learn and be inspired for them to build a career that you're proud to be in.

Yesterday I received an email from a student that honestly left me puzzled about working with Gen-Z as a Gen-Z myself! Here's why ⤵ The student was emailing to adjust the dates of an internship with my non-profit organization. They kindly expressed their gratitude and excitement about working with us 💖 Although... the thing was: ➡️ Their "internship" was meant to start in less than two weeks ➡️ They never submitted an application ➡️ And they never communicated their interest about working with us at all.  (I did check spam and all our email records to be sure!) Long story short, I thanked them for their email and invited them to submit an application as soon as possible so we could see if providing them with an internship placement was still possible. To help any students out there still looking for summer internships, here are my top 3 tips: #1 If you want an internship, please go apply for it! #2 If you don’t hear a response, that’s not a yes - it’s all about consent here!  #3 If you don't follow the application procedure or deadlines, your application may not be considered. So please make sure to check as each organization runs things a bit differently. tl;dr: please don't assume you'll get a position without applying! if you don't apply, you can't be considered. Recently came across this reel. (Adding a screenshot alongside) and it left me thinking about a lot of things. What would have happened if I didn’t choose the college I’m in or the course I’ve taken? Or better yet, changed my course and started again from scratch ? What would have happened if I didn’t do a certain internship or start writing on LinkedIn ? What happens if I don’t say yes to a certain job and start something of my own? People talk about taking chances which shape your future but there are so many chances that you don’t take that may end up defining your life. Choose and decline wisely. I recently had my 14-year-old create a #resume to make a key point — that she needs to build critical work experiences beyond just being a camp counselor. I guided her through the process of drafting one, starting with simple examples: - What things have you done that required discipline? - What experiences have you had? - What skills or things are you good at? Her initial reaction was that she didn't have much to put on her résumé. This opened the door for a valuable conversation about the importance of gaining real work experience early. At just 14, starting with an internship can make a world of difference!
