👑 Kings Speech 👑 In his recent speech, King Charles highlighted several important initiatives aimed at supporting Mental Health, including reforms to the Mental Health Act. The King emphasized the government's commitment to expanding mental health services, including significant investments to enhance access and support. 💰 Increased Funding: An annual investment of £2.3 billion by 2024 to improve mental health services, designed to help an additional two million people. 📖 Mental Health Support in Schools: The expansion of mental health support teams in schools and colleges, aiming to provide early intervention and support for young people. We hope these policy commitments will enhance mental health support for everyone and help ease the crisis impacting numerous individuals and communities. The National Quality Framework Health sets the Standards for all Mental Health Services in Ireland. All services that we inspect will be judged against this framework over the next four years. It also enables providers to organise and benchmark their services ahead of future regulation of community services. The framework has an increased focus on governance, inclusiveness, human rights and recovery. It is future looking moving in step with the implementation of Irelands national mental health policy "Sharing the Vision". •

This memory box was created by participants in a mental health histories project at Middle Street Resource Centre in Nottingham. We spoke to Dr Verusca Calabria, project lead, for her reflections on running an oral history project. Here’s her top tips: 💡Allow time and resource to build trusting relationships with participants to ensure an equal partnership. 💡Respond to participants' needs – different people will want to engage in different ways. Don’t force a single or rigid approach. 💡Consider the impact of your project on staff, volunteers and participants, and have adequate emotional support available – revisiting the past isn't always a happy experience. 💡Be ambitious about the positive change your project can make to participants' wellbeing and sense of identity. 1️⃣ in 3️⃣ Australians report feeling lonely – this Loneliness Awareness Week, we're working to shift that stigma for people across our region. Brisbane North PHN and Footprints Community have been successfully facilitating non-clinical, community-based interventions in Caboolture and Kilcoy via Social Health Connect (SHC) – a social prescribing program which supports adults who are lonely, isolated or have unmet social needs which negatively impact their health and wellbeing. 🤝 Social prescribing connects patients to services, people and activities in their community to enhance a person’s connectedness and sense of belonging, with the support of a Link Worker. Both patients (like Debbie who shared her story here: https://bit.ly/4cdLTAw) and local GPs (like Dr James Martin) have given feedback about the life-changing impact of SHC for those presenting with anxiety, low grade mental health concerns, or loneliness. 🔗 It's easy for clinicians to refer into the program. This Men's Mental Health Week, we are reflecting on 'On Being a Man' by David Torrance, Sandy Campbell, John Carnochan, and Pete Seaman. This compelling book delves deep into the evolving concept of masculinity and its impact on Scottish men today. 'On Being a Man' brings together four distinguished voices to explore the state of Scottish men, their personal journeys and the pressing issues they face. The narrative tackles the dynamic roles men play in modern society—how they engage in relationships, raise children and define family. It sheds light on the stark contrast between the expectations placed on men today and those of forty years ago. While celebrating the positive transformations in men's roles, the book doesn’t shy away from confronting the darker aspects of Scottish masculinity. It addresses the harsh realities of drinking, violence and abusive behaviour among some men. These are tough topics, but essential for fostering a broader dialogue on men's mental health and societal expectations.
