Hosting a Big Blue Table in your workplace helps build workplace connections and gives staff a meaningful space to support their own mental health and wellbeing. David Stanley, Founder and Director of The Convenience Group shares with us his experience of hosting last year: In October last year, we hosted our first #BigBlueTable event across The Convenience Group offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to raise funds and awareness for Beyond Blue. Critically, it also provided our staff team with an opportunity to learn about the signs, symptoms and prevalence of depression and anxiety, the importance of feeling comfortable discussing mental health challenges, and how to seek help – for yourself or someone you care about. Beyond Blue sent us a fabulous workplace ‘host kit’, which gave us everything we needed to run an enjoyable, engaging and informative event. The posters and decorations helped bring a sense of occasion and some mental health messaging to our communal spaces. The business put on an informal staff lunch, where we talked about the importance of Beyond Blue’s work breaking the stigma which can still surround mental health issues. Using the ‘conversation starter’ tips included in the host kit, we then split into smaller groups to explore each other’s understanding of depression and anxiety, the warning signs and how to take that all-important first step in getting the right information and support for yourself, a friend, family member or work colleague. Convenience Advertising is incredibly proud of our 15-year partnership with Beyond Blue, supporting the mental health of communities across Australia through their powerful public health campaigns. Hosting a Big Blue Table event allowed our staff to connect with this work even further, giving us an opportunity to share our own experiences in a fun and safe way. We listened, we talked, we learned, and we all took something out of it. People are the most important part of any business and we need to look out for them, so I’d encourage all organisations – big or small – to get involved and host a Big Blue Table event this October. We will be there again this year, proudly supporting Beyond Blue’s vital work.“ To register your workplace Big Blue Table or find out more visit bit.ly/3XqbnVM
