Head-turning, life-affirming, spine-tingling - classic cars and their community evoke a bond with drivers, owners and fanatics worldwide. They are meant to be cherished, and in some cases restored to their former specifications, ready for their next custodian. But what exactly does restoration mean? And where do restomods fit in all of this? All of this and more uncovered for your reading pleasure in HBPR's recent blog post.

As we say at Ford, be curious! Let's look at the history of Detroit. Did you know that the Cadillac car brand got its name from the French founder of Detroit? Founded as a city by Antoine de la mothe Cadillac, a French military leader and trader. Fort Pontchartrain du Detroit started as the new France fur trading post, it has French influence in the street layout of the city. Did you know that in 1920 it was the 4th largest America city (after New York, LA, and Chicago) and that at its population peak of 1.8M in 1950, Detroit was the nation's 5th largest US city? Original home to the native tribes Ojibwe (also called Chippewa), the Odawa (also called Ottowa), Huron, and the Potawatomi (also called the Bode'wadmi). What is GM's strategy regarding installing carcinogenic tires on EVs that will wear-out twice as fast on the heavier, faster accelerating EVs and, therefore, emit toxins 1750 times more dangerous than tailpipe emissions twice as fast, sending countless numbers of Americans to their deaths via Cancer, Heart and Lung Disease? Will it install non-carcinogenic tires that accomplish 32 things Pneumatic tires cannot and save all of their lives, such as the Climate-Smart Tire, instead? It takes Courage to lead; None to follow.

This massive property is slowing down the business. The company offers over 8M vehicles annually, and it takes time for drivers to get to and move the cars. Which slows down 'time to retail'. How can Manheim solve this problem and make things more efficient? The answer: Make it easier for teams to get around. https://buff.ly/3y0fs8Y After two pilots in Tampa and Orlando, Cox Automotive (the owner of Manheim) could start using Carteav's end-to-end autonomous solution to pick up and drop drivers near the cars they need to move. (There is no need for extra drivers to drive the golf carts back and forth!)

Reading "New cars are 400kg heavier than seven years ago thanks to this vehicle type..." I came to the comparison what the extra 400Kg weight is akin too, and Good Old Simpsons done it again. This helps explains why the last 5 or more years the pothole crisis is well... A Crisis. I have been in deep thoughts on the pothole crisis here in Britain and there are so many more factors than just heavier vehicles, but that is still a main factor in the pothole crisis: 1. Vehilces are just getting heavier and heavier, in 7 years SUV full EV's will add another 500Kg or more to their current weight. 2. There are just and more vehicles on the road each in all category types of vehicles but the roads are not being developed to grow with this new wave of factors - Example: Old mix of Tarmac doesn't cut the mustard in the 21st Century. 2. Far more vehicles these days (compared to 20-25 years ago) are either '4 Wheel Drive' or 'All Wheel Drive'. So before this a car would only be placing engine power down to the tarmac with just 2 wheels. When more vehilces are 4x4 or AWD then that is a doubling of engine power per car being applied to the road surface causing more wear.  3. a. Tyres themselves are just larger in diameter and width placing a larger tyre footprint on the road causing more wear on the road. 3.b. Tyre compounds are far stronger, with more complex tread patterns creating more 'grip' on the road for safety, the downside to this advancement is more wear on the roads. (Compare a tyre for the standard main car 30 years ago). 4. Due to the extra weight, the extra size and the extra tyre advancements means the cars are now fitted with face ripping off brake discs on all 4 corners which results in far more road wear from all 4 tyres on vehicle (lorries are different many more tyres). 5.a. Car engines are massive powerhouses these days producing a family crossover the Grandlander from Vauxhall the sporty one is 300bhp. 300 bhp before the year 2000 in production cars (Nissan Pulsar was 200 bhp - this was the top hot hatch at the time). 5.b. So these even heavier, even larger, more wheel drived, bigger wheeled and tyred equiped with massive brakes are wearing the roads when stopping, but these big brutes of cars can also accelerate almost just as hard as they brake which of course causes 'More road wear'.  6. My last point here is just a thought on Climate Change or environmental and how these days Tarmac doesn't really smell like Tarmac any more. Years ago you could smell molten Tarmac being laid miles away, these days standing ride beside it you virtually smell nothing. So the Tar in the Mac is not so tar and is not as strong as it use to be. Yesterday, I got to tour the Grand Central's long lost cousin...Michigan Central Station with one heck of a story. - Constructed in 1914 by the same architects of New York's Grand Central - 4,000 passengers a day and hosting 3,000 office workers in the tower above - If the automotive industry is the heart of Detroit, this station was its main artery to becoming the 4th most populous city in the country. This fed Detroit's boom in the first half of the 1900's until it's own automobile production cannibalized itself. Between the Great Depression, the War, and the rapidly growing automotives + highways, the train station lost all of its value and sold for $5M (a third of what it was built for 40 years prior). For the next 50 years, it traded ownerships and idealistic plans, but was left abandoned to all but graffiti artists, crime, and drugs. That is until Ford Motor Company bought it in 2018 pouring $1B+ in it's revival. By my math, I can't imagine this will an amazing ROI. But it surely is a beacon of hope for the people of Detroit...certainly make me proud to own a ford truck... and is definitely the leadership that cities need to move forward. In 10 years, maybe this area will be labeled a gentrified area by greedy men in suits. I hope it is seen as a sacrifice made for the greater community. Three years ago, General Motors put out this ad, painting a picture of US catching up. Fast forward to today, and the topic is still hot. But here’s the thing—#EVs haven’t quite taken over the U.S. like they have in other parts of the world. So, what’s holding us back? Is it the charging infrastructure, the costs, or just old habits that die hard? It’s a mix of all these, but that doesn’t mean we can’t overcome them.
