Thank you to our panel for the eye-opening session on “The Rise of Defense Tech” 👏
🛡️ Discussing the sensitive topic, our panel delicately addressed how VCs are starting to invest in this sector to help protect democracy and its civilians. As Nicholas N., Partner MD One Ventures, explained "Defense tech isn't about bullets and bombs. It's about key enablers. It all has a civilian use-case."
🕒 European VC interest in defense tech is still in its infancy, with both Nicholas and Marie Brattberg agreeing that investors have failed to spot and capitalize on the trend before now.
⚠️ According to Karl-Christian Agerup, board member at NATO IF, it's not just VCs that are behind the times - when compared with the US, Europe’s defense tech sector is underdeveloped. We need to speed things up as "Relying on technologies that we need that are controlled by others outside of our security sphere is a corporate risk."
💡Marie Brattberg, Chief Strategy Officer at Recorded Future, also touched on the idea that many businesses may have an untapped defensive use that should be considered - “In the beginning for us, our customers pointed out that our product had a really interesting use-case for security."
