Where there's heat, there's heightened risk for fire. 🔥🧯 In response to the Davis Fire, we evaluated the data and found a correlation between the number of extreme heat days and poor air quality in Washoe County (which is often indicative of wildfires). Fire season is challenging for communities and can significantly impact quality of life, especially when it hits so close to home. Bringing the data to light, and perhaps being able to prepare, is key. 📊 United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra , one of our Quality of Life Champion sponsors, has launched an Emergency Assistance Fund to support families displaced by the Davis Fire. Winter is the most beautiful time of the year in L.A. It’s when the sky is most clear and crisp, giving us Los Angelenos the best views of the nearby mountaintops that are covered in snow. It should be a time of year when a Los Angeleno has the gift of choosing between a beach day or a quick trip to Big Bear for a snow day. But instead, the skies are covered in smoke and a thick brown-gray haze. There are caked layers of ash on buildings and cars. Full neighborhoods are gone. Unrecognizable. Our city is on fire. And meanwhile the campesinos in our communities, are facing the rough winds and smoke as they continue to show up (because they must) to harvest the food that we all eat. The fire departments are out there struggling to control these massive fires that are the most devastating that we have ever witnessed. It is dark times and it reminds me of some wise words from Mr. Roger's mom: "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” #LAWildfires #CaliforniaFires #LosAngeles #ClimateChange #CommunityResilience #FirstResponders #EssentialWorkers #FarmWorkers #EnvironmentalCrisis #SupportLA #CaliforniaStrong #AirQuality #WildfireSeason #CommunityHeroes #ClimateAction
