As I trawl endless brand and marketing roles, it’s easy to see which businesses have a sense of brand and which don’t. It’s not the usual reeling off of values and visionary buzz words, instead I look for companies with a clearly defined way of working - who set out ‘how things roll’ day-to day and are conscious of how important it is in attracting the right attitude of people to join them. What this looks like will feed from their brand. That’s why I’ve always said that ‘brand’ goes way beyond marketing. A deep-rooted authentic brand story works hard to rally a crowd. Uniting teams to head in the same direction and engaging like-minded customers to join a shared mission to drive change. In my experience, if a team can all agree and work towards a shared vision and goal, AND do it in an aligned way, success will always follow. Why? Because “It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it that gets results.”! In the work I do to help businesses establish and communicate their brand story, a big part is making sure that the promise is delivered on the ground - to help close the ‘Say-Do’ gap and grow credibility, loyalty and advocacy, plus retention of good staff.
