This year's theme, "Beat Plastic Pollution," highlights the urgent need to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainable practices. BSLS gathers together to pick up trash and clean up on environmental day, and throughout the year in local areas, to help our communities. We also have Individuals who are fiercely passionate about sorting plastics and recycling in the homes. They ensure all of us do our best to be kind to our planet. 🌍 Earth Day has arrived, a poignant reminder of our collective responsibility to come together to protect the planet we all call home. For us, Earth Day is not confined to a single date on the calendar; it’s a guiding principle ingrained in our mission. However, this year’s theme, “Planet vs Plastics” underscores the urgent need to address the threat of plastic pollution, one issue that affects every person on this planet every day. Our planet is suffocating in plastic waste, from clogging our oceans to infiltrating our soils, the problem is undeniable. It's harming wildlife and ecosystems and microplastics are found everywhere, disrupting waterways, oceans, food chains and human health. But, what can we do to change this? Honestly, the planet’s plastic problem does require global systems change, at policy and business level. However, we as individuals can and must still play a part. At Belmont, we are focusing on how nature-based projects like the Watercress rewetting project can help alleviate the weight of the plastic crisis from floodplain management, to water quality to providing a place for communities to visit, to learn from or volunteer with.
