The annual #HousingCentral conference is happening November 20 – 22, 2023, and the #BCSPCA is proud to be a presenter and tradeshow exhibitor. On Monday afternoon, Meghann Cant and Iris Ting will be leading an interactive session: Partnering to Address the Challenges of Pet-Friendly Housing, and Sarah Herring will be hosting our tradeshow booth on Monday and Tuesday. Research is clear that the human-animal bond enhances our physical and mental well-being. Pets can help alleviate stress, reduce loneliness, relieve depression, and facilitate healing and resiliency. Evidence also shows that people see their pets as family members and often make difficult decisions, including staying in unsafe housing or turning down temporary shelter or permanent housing, to keep their family together. However, co-housing people and their pets is not without challenges. Join partner organizations BC Housing and the BC SPCA for a panel discussion of a unique pilot project to address these issues and support more widespread adoption of pet-friendly housing. Built around themes of Social-Emotional Learning, Sustainability & Stewardship, and Social Responsibility, all lessons include concepts related to B.C. core curricular competencies and content. 🐾Our humane educators are excited for another year of visiting B.C. classrooms. In parts of the province without an in-person option, we still look forward to connecting through virtual presentations.
