New Zealand will increase an entry tax for foreign visitors in a move some fear could scare off visitors. Read more: https://bbc.in/3MxEH6O
I lived on South Island (as in the picture) a long time ago, and yes a very beautiful country... very agricultural and mountainous. Lots of livestock farming. The North Island is more crowded, urbanised and flatter, though. Nothing wrong with the charge, as they have a good reason for it. Sensible tourists won't criticise it.
I was planning to visit my family in Auckland next year. Abandoning the trip and going to South East Asia instead. Tourists are welcomed there
It will be £47 and is no different to cities introducing tourist taxes in Europe except it’s a fee for every tourist entering, where as europe it’s charged at the hotel per night.
Probably charge the Springboks a fortune to visit and break their hearts.
The NZ Gov has earmarked this (additional) funding for development of tourist/tourism facilities. So if we want better facilities this helps a bit. As one other person said £50. Cheap at twice the price.
They didn't even spend all of the previously gathered money, and have not identified where all the extra money would go. I wonder if they have even looked at how much money would be lost from the New Zealand economy if less tourist come.
I mean, yes it's quite a BIG increase however having been lucky enough to visit (& saving up to go back) it won't deter me...quite simply the most beautiful place I have ever been 🤙
I really don't care because I am not interested at all.

1wVisit Argentina instead of New Zealand. No tourist tax here. There is a US$1.50 hotel tax per night in Buenos Aires which is estentially nothing.
