Last month at the Big Brothers Big Sisters National Conference, Artis Stevens, President & CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, led an epic tale of the hero's journey in his opening keynote, "Becoming Big." From comic book superheroes to modern-day mentorship stories across the BBBS network, Artis masterfully conveyed the power we each share, as the heroes of our journeys, as we continue to create access and opportunities for youth. Maritime professional and doctoral researcher with a keen interest in digital innovation to promote safer, cleaner and sustainable ocean practices
This only highlights why the maritime industry will struggle to nudge the needle on the women make up 2% of the skill pool statistic. - You can be a parent and be top management at sea, of course but it sits at conflict with many other things life has to offer. Such as having a family. - You can be a superintendent and a mother of a young child - but not how the maritime industry currently stands. “Excuse me chief, just wind my baby”. Alternative arrangements need to be made. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS 👇 - What I would love to see more is a version of this making its way into maritime organisations. Recently, I asked someone who worked for household name furniture prodcuer if within there team how many of their colleagues were female? After rephrasing the question three times due to confusion, the person laughed and said oh it’s easily 50-50. It was so ingrained into that company culture that it was a given ‘fair’ representation policies had been implemented for so long and accepted, to even ask the question seemed silly. In the maritime domain we struggle, and on ships it’s difficult to see how we can reach 20% female representation let alone 50-50. But maybe we can start thinking so radically shore side and believe in the previously unthinkable to bring about change. Now pass me a nappy! 🐣 #gender #parenthood #mother #seafarer #lifeatsea #2% #retention https://lnkd.in/gfrYuPgg
Who says babies can’t be in the boardroom? When parents, and mothers specifically, are in leadership positions, things evolve for the better. Here’s a peek at a normal c-suite (or b-suite as we call it) meeting happening where 5 moms lead our company through the highs, the challenges, and the bottle feeds. When our CEO and co-founder Laura Modi showed up with her 3 month old, Etta, for a session not only did we celebrate that sweet baby—we fed her, bounced her, and cuddled her while sallying forth with Bobbie business decisions at hand. There are 13 babies—ages 3 months to 29 years old—between our c-suite and we are so proud to lead as a parent-first company. When we say this is for our babies too…we mean it! 💚

Improvement | Innovation | Design - Solving problems, improving experiences and elevating systems since 2000.
I love this! The future of work includes radical flexibilty. Organizations with outdated expectations will continue to struggle with staffing. I do believe one can have it all (“all” is personally defined), sometimes you may have to design and build it for yourself because legacy systems don’t often support or trust that one can provide high value and have a fully balanced life with self-care at the same time. SN: If those babies are drinking the product at the office, they are probably on payroll. #smart #womenleaders

Work-Life Balance Expert & Parent Coach | Supporting Busy Professional Parents with Young Kids to Thrive
Absolutely love this post! As a parent coach, I can’t emphasize enough how vital those first few months are for bonding with your new baby. It’s such a precious time to build a strong foundation of love and trust. However, it’s also crucial not to lose sight of your passions and professional aspirations. Striking the right balance between parenting and maintaining your drive is essential for personal fulfillment and sets a powerful example for our children. I’m eagerly waiting for a world where work-life balance is truly embraced at its core. When parents, especially mothers, are supported in leadership roles, it leads to a more inclusive and compassionate workplace. Kudos to companies like Bobbie that champion this and show that family and career can beautifully coexist. 💚 #WorkLifeBalance #Parenting #Leadership #FamilyFirst

Innovation & Product Management | Venture Scout | Management Consultant | Strategy & Business Development
This is brilliant - and what an impressive competitive advantage! This is my soap box: women control 85% of consumer spending decisions, and 90% of Fortune 500 CEOs are men. Which means that *most* big corporations’ strategy is dependant on the assumption that men understand what women want. Not only does Bobbie have an impressive flexible working situation, they are clearly putting their target audience in key roles within their company. (And I assume there’s a tantrum contingency plan.) Bravo! #startups #babytech #venturecapital #foodtech #diversity #inclusion #flexwork
