Everyone knows pro bono work is important. Providing legal representation to those who otherwise can't afford it. For many private practice lawyers (myself included), pro bono is an important part of what we do. But it's just a part. It isn't the main gig. Not so for the amazing team at Bay Area Legal Services. You see, for dozens of lawyers at Bay Area Legal, serving the underserved and underrepresented is *the* gig. 40 hours/week and often many more. Representing folks who, but for BALS' work, wouldn't be represented at all. That work isn't easy and it isn't free. Which is why I couldn't be more excited to join Bay Area Legal Services's Development Council. BALS's Development Council helps fund and support the organization's critical work in our community. There aren't a lot of easy, black-and-white wins as a lawyer. Supporting Bay Area Legal Services is absolutely one of them.
